335 badge with twin exhaust would be a nice way to go about it, but knowing me ill probably end up putting the 320i badge. Want the okes to think this guy has lost the plot with just a loud xhorst on a 320.....

Good day my fellow car enthusiasts.

This is the new project I have acquired myself.

It’s basically a 330d M with a completely stock 2jz-gte engine.
Extras, PDC. Auxiliary, xenon, sunroof, BMW professional radio etc

I bought the car like this after the previous owner just got tired off the conversion. I had to deal with a few issues to get it running, and it still has a few issues that I will have to sort out, but the main aim is to ultimately have a 600hp daily driver. I have always loved the 2jz-gte engine and I firmly believe that the e90 is the perfect car to properly deal with that amount of power with regards to handling, braking and controlling the power relatively safely.
It’s not much to look at now, and unfortunately the car has been badly neglected, scratches, dirty etc…. but with some time, effort and commitment I hope to restore and build a beauty of note.

Just a few pics of the car…..

Here is a pic of the engine bay, which is actually not a bad thing seeing that it still looks a bit :bin:

Good day Guys
Not much to report back on. I took the engine out again, to clean up everything. I cleaned the engine bay and engine with some proper cleaning agent. Very potent stuff, atleast everything is clean and shiny again.:=):

I also fitted the r154 box. It seems that I might have to widen the tunnel by 10mm as the box is currently touching the sides. I am going to take off that protective material from the inside of the tunnel and check the clearances again. But I kinda know I’ll have to widen it a bit to prevent the box from touching under severe boost applying conditions.:smashScreen:

Also the new engine and gearbox combination is still a tad too short. Might have to build a custom extension on the lever where it fits to the box.

I’ve started with the downpipe as well. I want the wastegate to feed back into the exhaust. Not a big fan of the short wastegate exhaust. Sounds insane, but its unnecessary exhaust gases inside and around the engine bay.:RedNo:

Also made a bracket for the fuel pressure regulator and started playing around to find a place for the dual stage boost controller.

Next on the cards is to take the car to Marius at fullboost to build the boost pipes and decide on the best way forward regarding the intercooler.
I’ve also started getting some parts and plugs for the management and zeitronix as I want quite a few things monitored while driving such as AFR, EGT, Oil pressure and temp, boost, water temp etc.

The idea is to build a kind of engine ‘harness’ where all the sensor input wires as well as the injector and coil wires connect to a central plug. From there it should branch to the management, zeitronix and different gauges. It just makes life a lot easier if you have to take the engine out in future, as it only requires you to unplug it at the central point. Anyone who has ever had to unplug brittle injector plugs will understand this haha.

Well this is it for now, will update when there is progress to report on.
Thank you for reading

Regards
Richard

Are you going to come and show us the car on a bmwfanatics event once it is done? Would like to admire the work that went into this project :fencelook:

well done buddy
what will a motor and g/box cost like this ?

The last time i checked the 2jz-gte is now selling for R25000
The R154 is very hard to come by these days, and anything between 7-9k i suppose.

Once the car is in a state where it can be compared to the vehicles on here I would really like to attend an event. Some of the fellow member's cars are just soooooo nice :praise:

The diff is still a major headache, it still has the original 330d diff in at the moment, which is a complete waste, as its a 2,36 ratio. The easiest, yet most expensive way to fix this, is to get a m3 diff from an e90 m3, together with its subframe, you looking at 30k if your lucky.

I'm exploring using a ls diff from an e34, will require a fair amount of modification to fit, but I'm confident its strong enough and worth it.

With regards to gearbox, the R154 works really well but its very scarce to find, also the 6 speed bmw boxes are also very strong if you can find one at a decent price. D4D box will also work, but there seems to be a 1st gear failure issue when pushing high horsepower.

Would a Z4M Diff work?

With a few custom brackets yes it will, but i'm assuming it will be just as scarce and expensive to find one.
