Now remove all the fabric and make a trip to your local fabric place

I Bought 1,5m of black suede fabric(R60/m)...not everyones likeing I know but I love :inlove:

I used the old fabric as a template to cut out the new fabric( a little bigger though because I wanted to rap it arourn the headliner for a stronger hold).

Once done I used "spray-on" adesive(R110 at builders warehouse) applied to the fabric c-pillar covers and headliner, allowed some drying time and laid it down

After that I flipped it around and proceded to rap the fabric around the panels with some hot glue.

Valve Cover DIY

The paint on my Valve cover started to flake and this really annoyed me everytime the bonnet opened. Ive been wanting to paint it since getting the car and decided to do it on votersday(after I voted :) )

So The cover looked something like this before.

Did you notch the gearbox bell housing to clear the m3 headers first?

Hi Gizmo. Done nothing yet. Headers still in the boot while I wait on a Manual gearbox.

Thought it was a straight fit? How do i go about "notching" the bell housing?

angle grinder.

That re enforcing rib between the top main bolt and the small 10mm dust shield bolt needs to be ground down to clear the no 6cyl exhaust downtube.

How cheap? Spare covers can still be bought from the agents for rather little money, I had to buy one when I got my set.

Hey Gizmo...your set looks great

I have all the covers though. Wonder if i should attempt a refurb or just send it away. looks like mostly clear coat is peeling. From the DIY's online it seems straight forward (probably is a very tedious thing).

Paid R4k...figured its a split rim and new price in 2001 according to this thread was $2600.

condition is not too bad...no structural damage etc and best of all its totally OEM

Bargain in my book

Quick update: found a ZF transmission and 328i Propshaft and kept myself busy the past weekend. Installation went well but soon realised that i need a new shift carrier - my current one with the ZF box, puts the shifter too far back so neutral, is where second usually is and that means i have no 2nd or 4th gear at the moment. So was a bit of a bitter sweet weekend for me.

zf%2Bmeet%2Bgetrag.jpg

Recap and summary to remind myself of set objectives

Progress so far in no specific order:

  • Bought and installed a hardtop.
  • Bought and installed an audi A4 Wind Deflector.
  • DIY'd hardtop headliner in semi suede.
  • Added Aux to factory cassette deck:rollsmile:
  • Upgraded speakers.
  • Automatic to Getrag 5 speed Conversion.
  • Getrag 5 speed to getrag 5 speed Swap :thumbdo:
  • Getrag 5 speed to ZF 5 Speed Swap.
  • Installed 3.46 LSD.
  • Wrinkle Painted the m50 tappet cover.
  • Acquired OEM E36 17" Wheels (BBS style 29).
  • Acquired e36 m3 3.0 Headers .

To Do in no specific order

  • Find and install e36 ZF shift hardware (will possibly go short shifter here).
  • Headjob :fencelook: filthy minds! Car needs valve stem seals so will port the head then.
  • Fit E36 m3 Headers.
  • Refurb and fit BBS Wheels.
  • Acquire and install e36 M3 Bumper, skirts, beedings and diffuser.
  • Suspension upgrade and lower ride height(quality shocks and springs).
  • Install New LCAB's and RTAB's

Proply forgetting stuff but this is more or less the journey I had in mind when I bought the car. Will see how it goes. Thanks for looking :coolShake:
