Time for another update to bring 2017 to a close with this amazing car...
October 2017: Something that I wanted to do as a matter of priority was a carbon clean, given the build up of carbon that affects these motors. The Twelve21 team are the new Carbon Doctor licensed branch for KZN and with their opening special, it was a no brainer for me to have this done.. Got there early on Saturday and Schalk started to work on the car.
Have to say that the build-up at 80k wasn't as bad as I had thought but then again, they say spirited driving helps lessen the build up :fencelook: The clean took about 3 hours, simply because I am OCD and insisted on checking each cylinder, repeatedly. Also knowing that the stock charge pipes are prone to failure, I ordered one from Rennzport prior to the carbon clean, so that I could install this at the same time. My old charge pipe was cracked and was being held together by the clamp, once the clamp was loosened, the pipe came out in pieces :skit: The Rennzport charge pipe is amazing quality and being black, fits into the engine bay quite stealthily.
Some pics I had taken at Twelve21:
Have to say that upon start up, I was very impressed with the general sound of the engine and smoothness of the idle. Once I hit the road, I was also pleasantly surprised by the linear, strong, smooth pulling power after the clean. Definitely feel like it was preventative maintenance with the added benefit of some performance gains. If you own a x35i, this is something that you should do.
November 2017: This marked the last official BMWFanatics Breakfast run for 2017 and the turn-out was stellar, compared to the Birthday run to the Wafflehouse :fencelook: That DTM though :blowheart: Still waiting for
@aqeel.hotwired to share the rest of the pics, but for now these are the only pics I managed to take.
December 2017: I had always promised myself that if I had the privilege of owning an e90, I would do the exterior carbon treatment as it is something that has always appealed to me. I began searching for the carbon pieces before even purchasing the car, talk about putting the cart before the horse  I had managed to get an OEM M Performance spoiler from a mate of mine and was looking for the mirror caps + splitters.
Managed to get stock of the outstanding carbon pieces after 4 months from Carbon Sport and overall I was happy with the fitment. I had arranged to have to the front bumper sprayed given the stone chips and scrapes that was inherited from the previous owner and then the carbon pieces fitted, this came as a rush as it was a last minute decision to have this done before the SABeemer 2017 end of year run.
So this marks the end of 5 months of ownership with this beast and all 2017 updates... Plans have somewhat changed for 2018 and I doubt I will be doing much modding but let's see... :tiptoe:
