Sometimes, they sound like tractors with freeflow exhausts.

go test drive the 320i a few more times to get a feel for the car
your answer should be obvious when changing cars... go with the one what speaks to youafter all we dont NEED a BMW
you want one because it makes you feel good so choose the one that makes you happy...

I know this is an age old battle - diesel vs petrol, and we'll never have a conclusive answer since it comes down to personal preference.
It's refreshing to learn that I am valid in my confusion as to whether this is a wise decision. I'm battling with both sides of the coin, and everyone has raised valid points. I guess going with the gut is a good point.
I definitely agree with the points that Vicus has made about the diesel's way of getting from A to B. It's a great delivery of power that doesn't take a lot of fuel to do it. I do love diesel and have no problem with it.
I do also agree with the different driving dynamic that a petrol delivers - higher revs and a screaming engine does bring something out in a person.
In summary I guess I'm convinced that I will sacrifice a lot of fuel saving in favour of a better installment, but on the power side I will sort of have the same, it's just the way in which it produces it.
In short I will probably score just under R1k on installment. Extras are kinda the same, I score a sunroof and front PDC over mine. The car is 12 months younger, with a payment term of 5 months longer than I had left.
So I will have about 6 months left on the motorplan after the car is paid off, vs now where I will run out of motorplan 3 months before I've paid it off.

Why bud ?
You can drive the auto in "manual" and change when you want (except of course if its extreme)
Gbmw said:hahahaah this argument nog :roflol:
Thankfully they both good cars, I reckon just goes down to personal preference.
As much as I love the "i"......in guise of the 2.0l 4cyl.....does not make the lovely inline 6 sound. For the "d" ...we already used to the sound

Should have added 'IMO' at the end of that sentence since we all have different driving styles. I get zero joy from revving my 335i to 6000rpm in D/S so I never do it. In a manual 335i it's a very different story. In other words I hate auto and DCT boxes.
ThomasF30, R1k doesn't justify the downgrade because you'll need to fill up more often in the 320i.
DieselFan said:Well my name speaks for itself. But may I ask if times are so tough why are you driving a latest model BMW? Why not get an e90 lci 320d? Or even an e46 330d.
moranor@axis said:depreciation is by far the biggest expense on a new car...
I would look at what you will loose with both options given when you expect you will want to trade in...
currently I think Diesels loose less but I would be wrong...
if nether grabs you and make you want it over the other then look at depreciation...

N20 because JB
JB because it will outperform the 320d and u still get decent consumption
The end.
