Motorplan and Low Engine Oil - 120i

Hey Guys,

My close friend owns a 2007 120i which is still under motorplan. The other day the car showed a warning saying engine oil low. I told he should book it in becuase I didn't want him topping up without knowing the correct engine oil, and I figured it should be covered on motorplan.

He takes the car in, and it appears that Auto Atlantic (CT CBD) expected the car in for an oil service, and when they saw that the car said oil service was 11 000km away, they refused to do anything. They said he can buy a tin of oil from the workshop and top it up.

Surely ALL engine oil should be covered under motorplan? My opinion is that this dealership is at fault, and being full of sh1t. He shouldn't be forced to either buy more oil or run the car with low oil for another 11000km until the next oil service, which would be dangerous for the engine.

It's not called a "Maintenance Plan" for nothing. BMW is responsible to maintain the car, excluding tyres and fuel only. FFS!! BMW is really getting up my ***.

Motorplan does not cover everything, and you will have to pay for topping up oil. I know, been down that road for 10 years now and still paying for oil.

Its unfortunate gents! but top up oil is for your expense not the dealer/motorplan
i also learned the hard way!!

yep bmw doesnt cover top up oil...

Yepp you pay for your own oil for top up, its not covered by the motorplan

If you read T&C, top up fluids are not included. However you need to consider this.

For a low oil level ing to occur, you have to be damm low on oil to get an oil lever warning, at least down 1L if not more.

Now if your due in 11,000 for a service, how the sausage did you loose that much oil ?

If there are no leaks, it means that the motor is chowing oil, which means that you need to have it looked at....

When I bought my BMW, they told me that I will pay for top up fluids which includes oil top up. Motorplan does not cover oil top up. Rather ask them to check what's the source of the oil consumption.

Yep, was on hold for their parts department a few days ago and there was the motorplan advert playing on the switchboard - and it did say that all you have to cover is your top up oil, tyres etc...

Ya i Phoned Auric auto and they said that after the first service, oil top-ups are for the clients expense. I guess that's that.

I dont think there are any leaks - as there is no evidence at our house/driveway/pavement where the car is usually parked.

Thing is, these engines from what I have heard are prone to use oil, come a lot more than others!

Yep those engines tend to use oil and you have to c to that. I bought my 320i brand new and after 17K i had to top up. They told me the 1st top up was 4 free but the rest I had to pay.

Our 320i needed a top up at 16k km. Went to dealer and was told to go to parts and buy oil.

The rule has always been that you pay for top up oil
