Hi guys,

Anyone experiencing a slight squealing noise when starting E46 in the morning. Lasts for about 5 to 10 seconds. Have taken to dealership and they replaced all the pulleys but the noise is still there. Any ideas?

Thanks

is it not maybe the wastegas pump ? ... I know mine buzzes for abit when its VERY cold, and then stops as soon as the car warms.. but normally only once in the morning.

Yeah

Im experiencing the same problem, i was told it could be the belts but that was changed not too long ago.

By the time i take it to the mac to have it checked out the cars heated up and the souds gone.

With the engine running, get access to the belt and run a bar of soap on the belt, the part which comes into contact with the pulleys. Do it for 2-3sec and let the belt cut grooves into the soap bar. This will stop any belt squeal. If you still get squeal then it could be an Idler pulley or even the alternator bearing.

Thanks for the info guys,

Will try that but will be taking it back to the dealership before warranty ends and see what they say about the alternator bearing.

My 5 cents:

I get a cold squeel from the rear. It's the exhaust. My mechanic reckons it's probably the butterfly valve which is jammed. I'm actually browsing around now to find what I can do short of replacing the tailpiece, and then I started considering a lighter, cat-less exhaust system. hmmmmmmm
