jerez, may i ask you why you asked this question in post no 1 of this thread.

as long as i can recall, the uk and europe are nuts about modding cars, read enough mags from the uk to have seen this, and have more shows and get togthers than we can in sa.

i was actually hoping we wouldve been getting a lot of photos ,covering the different shows posted here,to actually show us what we are missing out on:rollsmile:

Re the post ... I guess I've added some bits to my car and due to the NA bit, just seems to gain ponies instead if Stallions.
All the relatively average mods cost a bit but gain you v little.

Eg- Stage 2 Macht Schnell intake - cost £500- 4/6 bhp gain. But not proven, some say it does and some say you don't feel any diff.
Power Pulleys, yet again £500 with conflicting views on whether there's any difference.
Ram air scoops - £130- possible difference at high speeds only due to its design.

M performance muffler £3k fitted... No power gains advertised but I love it cos I can hear the diff.

I hope you can see my point here.... All of this and nothing substantial really .
Now I'm contemplating an X pipe ( £1800 Akra)in the new year but without stage2 software ( £620) I won't really feel much but will hear a lot.

All of this for a 40bhp.... Do you think that's worth it?

The alternative is a SC @ £10k ( R140k) to gain an extra 115 bhp and as I've explained in another post... My insurance will go through the roof.

Re- motorshows... I posted pics of te annual meet in Gaydon , Coventry in August this year and have a few planned this year.
When winter sets in everyone scuttles.

jerez, was always into the way a car looked, subtle changes, never into modding a motor, yes it is a lot of cash for a little gain in power,on a n/a car.

for the same cash, you most probably see a bigger difference on a turbo/sc car, might be wrong.
well in 2013 going to take the plunge and do improvements on my wifes nissan navara, and then on my 323i,most probably software, exhaust and branches.not expecting big numbers, but what i am expecting is that the cars must be more responsive,a little bit quicker and when driven sensibly, better fuel consumption.

to me modding is all about what i want and how i like it,not what others think and like/dislike.

My supercharger setup is good for over 520bhp. Actually can do 570.

Thats 230 bhp over the original M3.

All my internals are forged racing internals setup for boost, and you are right, its not cheap.

No point putting all the little mods on your car if its NA. The biggest performance gains you will feel are installing racing cams and losing weight, also fuel delivery. But once again, not cheap.

By installing all my lightweight engine mods, I didn't gain a lot more power, I did gain alot more torque, but what you really get, is an Engine that is so well balanced and revs so freely, that it gets to that power so much faster. So, when racing against another M3 of similar power, I still leave him behind because of lightweight engine internals. Less work for my engine to lift = More power to be used elsewhere.

Not always about how much power you have, but how you can use it and how much you can actually put down on the road.

Mmmm... why do I mod my car??
Sorry guys, here comes a Loong write up... :mmm:

Well, it started when I was like 3 or 4 years old, and for x-mas my mom and dad had gotten me, my older brother, and my younger brother, all of us, the EXACT same plastic trucks to play with.

They were big, with wheels the size of a gokart, and you could actually sit in on them and ride them, load sand, and dump it, MAN it was fun!! :joy:

Now from the get go there were issues about who's truck is who's truck, as they all looked the same, and my mom went and took out a permanent marker, and started writing my elder brothers name all over the bright yellow cab of the trucks roof!! :dropjaw:

I FREAKED out!! telling my mom that I will mark my truck and to PLEASE not put my name on the roof!!??!! She gave me exactly 5 minutes to mark the truck, and that is what I did... :pimp:

Now being 3 or 4 years old, I was OBVIOUSLY not a pro spray pianter, but I ran into my dads garage, grabbed a tin of gold spraypaint, and sprayed my entire truck, including the wheels, Gold!! :inlove:

When my mom came back 5 minutes later, expecting a name written on the roof, she FREAKED OUT by what she saw!! She screamed at my dad to come have a look!! I was Sooooo scared of getting a hiding, but my dad, not always the best of dads, but this day, he looked at the truck, looked at me, and smiled, and said: "My boy, thats the best looking truck I have ever seen!!"

From that day, I knew, that customising your ride, or your belongings, is what makes us unique, and through the years I kept on modding my stuff, my first tricycle, first bmx, first ATB bomber Bicycle, first mountain bike, and first car, and all my cars after that. And its not just a case of us doing it for ourselves and sitting back and taking pride in what it is we have done, but loving the reaction we get from others when they see or hear or experience what it is we have done!!

The fact of having a ride, in todays life, where sooo many of the same product is stamped out on a production line, is shit in my eyes!! and for me, making my ride unique, is a MUST and a no brainer!! I know, that if my car is seen, EVERYONE knows, and says: "Look!! There goes Coisman!!" This is one of the reasons whe a car like the 1M sells, the M3 sells, and so many more, and especially cars that are made in limitted numbers, and sold for rediculious prices sells!! We want to be individual!!!

Concerning the speed related mods... From day 1 in your life, from the time you were still in your moms belly, your mom was already comparing how fast you are growing to other moms. When born, you were compared with other kids, and your mom saying how fast you are growing, and that you are already saying words, already walking, already saying the alphabet, already riding a bike....

Fact is, we as humans are a competative species, ALWAYS wanting to be faster and better that the one next to us, and I think this is the main reason why boys stays boys, and like to drive fast, or race, or have something that can go from 0-100 in 3 seconds... because its in our nature to always try and be better and faster!!

My mods on my car doesn't make it an M3, and sadly I won't be able to beat a Ferrari in a drag race unless the Ferrari lets me win, but my 325i is my 325i!! She is the only one in the WORLD, and I love her to bits!! :inlove:
