Misfire

Morning guy's

i have searched but could not find anything applicable.

anyway, i have got a misfire on an E39 530i when the engine is cold.
it misfires for more or less 30 seconds and then it is fine.
it misfires regardless of what i do, it can stand and idle, i can rev it up or start driving.no difference.

i have not yet checked plugs or supressor's .
a friend told me to look at the fuel filter.

any more suggestions while i am at it?[/quote]

Have the codes read - that will point you in the right direction, else you will keep guessing.

what does BMW charge for code reading

just spoke to a friend of mine, i am taking the car for a diagnostic this afternoon.
he recons i should not worry as some of the BMW's has quite an aggressive cold start sequence.

I had the exact issue with my old 318i. Turned out to be blown head gasket and moisture was getting in places it shouldn't.

Take a look at your dip stick to see if there is any whiteness on or if there is a lot of moisture on the oil cap.

Where in Centurion are you?

eldoraigne.

not too worried about blown headgasket.(the first thing i checked was the oil colour and oil cap.)

i had a car and a bike with head issues , so i am a bit paranoid about that.

My baby also idles very rough some cold mornings, almost as if she is only firing on 5 cylinders.
lasts anything from 10-40 seconds, then all ok. She also overfeuls when this happens, as in, I can smell allot of petrol when she idles like this.
There are no fault codes, I had them checked last week before I drove to Uvongo, so I think it might just be that, an aggressive cold start sequence.

the workshop's name is EAGLE AUTO in sunderland ridge.
the same guy's that used to be at the caltex at the bottom of ruimte road.

they have been looking after this car before i bought it.(they actually told me about the car).

If they can't find the problem, contact me, I'll do a diagnostic with the proper BMW tools...
