Gents, a quick technical question:

In the case of the motor going like mine has, besides the obvious damage you can see is there anything else I need to ask these guys to check when they repair the motor again?

Thanks!

All the best mike! Only saw your reply from a while ago now, I'll ask my dad all those questions tonight...our smart also goes into safe mode when drivin hard so we just reset it( next to the road or wherever)

We had to import some bolts and stuff from uk and had to do almost everything ourselves as Mercedes cant do anything

The smart is now running good and I'm the only one driving it

To date, and make sure you are sitting down gents.

R30 000 - Purchase Price
R4000 - Transport to Cape Town from JHB
R6400 - Four new Bridgestone Tyres
R5000 - Two Services (Parts replaced)
R30 000 - Original Motor Rebuild
R3000 - Replacing missing bits

Still to be completed:

1xService - R2000
New discs/pads - R1500
Replace aerial - R300

Nevermind the cosmetic stuff I have done, or the sound system etc that was added, nevermind my dad ruined the paint when washing it so it needs a R3000 respray and mag refurb... Just money spent.

Total: R82 500

On a car that is currently insured for a market value of R25 000

I can get rear-ended tomorrow and lose R60 000 as the motor is in the back, panels are sh*t expensive...

My dad insists on keeping it to get his money worth (the branding on the side) for the money he has spent as he paid for everything so asking to sell it is out of the question.

The motor is under warranty so the rebuilders moet kak en betaal.

I cant afford to buy my own car, so I just have to make do with it - I do really love the little thing.

If I come across some decent money I want to do the performance exhaust (R1450 from a local developer), respray in matte silver metallic with black wheels. Flock the interior and have suede/leather seats fitted. Amp the sub (though it gives more than enough bass un-amped) and do a brake upgrade.

Making do with what I have.

Ah Mike man this stuff makes me sad! I love these lil' cars, fun, good looking and everything. Now that you've spoken about the panels it reminded me, the one oke once reversed straight into our smarty and broke the right front panel, luckily after a long story he had to buy a new panel for us

Just got a response from the rebuilders, the damage to the motor is not linked to the prior rebuild 20 000km ago and any repair work will be on my account.

Okay, so who didnt see this coming? :biglol:

Isn't Smart actually Merc?? Would have thought they would be more reliable.

Tell your dad to get an E34 540 and to fit a loud exhaust. That will surly get the branding on the side noticed and it will be cheap to buy, a safer car, will cost no more in maintenance than the smart, has 4 proper door, and a it has a big boot. Further more you'll have one MASSIVE BMW community to help you out :):)
