So the Smart has been off the road for a few days due to a bad misfire. :fencelook:
The Smart Specialist could not figure it out, he tested everything over and over again. Even took half the motor apart to try figure out what the heck it was doing.
I took it to a Auto Electrician and he couldnt find an issue.
Then last night the JVC Head Unit went into "Protect" mode. So I googled it which led to a possible earth problem.
Today I sent it in to a friends mechanic that solved the problem in minutes. He noticed that the Smart has two earth's, and one was completely loose and shorting.
He tightened it up, started it up and oh my goodness this car is amazing! Goes like hell, changes gear so smoothly and the turbo really kicks in hard now.
Really enjoying the car so much. So, when will the next thing break? :rollsmile:

If it were not for the Head Unit it would still be stuffed, even the Smart tech at Mercedes Benz didnt have a clue. :rollsmile:

It is indeed a new key for the Smart, ordered it off Bid or Buy for R150 and it was delivered 3 days later.
Need to have it cut this morning. :thumbs:

Nope, Just swap the little chip from the old key into the new one.
No coding required, the immobiliser disarms when you unlock the doors with the remote. If the doors are unlocked manually you can try start the start the car but it will just laugh at you.

Used to have one of these in London. Perfect for reversing into parking sport for quick getaways! Parking attendants used to hate them, we could squeeze into any little spot You can chip these little buggers, camshaft, exhaust etc. to a reliable 100hp if I remember correctly, also a better clutch for faster gear-changes. Fun to drive!

So I have done 200km in it since we figured out the misfire and he is running without skipping a beat. :joy:
