Match anyone?

As Psymon69's thread say. I am about ready to light a match and throw it in the petrol tank. I got my car back yesterday, all in perfect condition. Smooth acceleration through all the gears. (I didn't rev it above 4000rpm)

Did about 140km (the BMW mechanic drove about 600km with it and NO problems)

This morning, on my way to work, the car started smoking so badly, the cars behind me changed lanes. The red oil light came on, flickered. Checked the oil. No problem there. :argh:

Drove back home, with the car smoking worse that a truck. :thumbdo: Spoke to the mechanic, he said I should drive around to check if there is something else to diagnose. As I drove, the car smoking, it started losing power, and made a funny noise when I pull away. I am really over this. :bangdesk:

I am seriously considering driving it 'till it blows up, or park it at a junk yard. Because these last 8 weeks, all it's been is piece of junk.

Now, does anyone maybe have some kind of advice to what MAY be wrong.. After spending R40 000, the car is worse than before

You’re not alone my car drove me nuts the last couple of months, won’t go into much details but yes time to move on to something new. It will be the last time a drive a car over the 200k km mark, before 200k km my car was a beauty.

Hope it’s not expensive and something simple but it sounds like extensive damage somewhere.

Good luck.

I think I am done with BMW. Saw a very nice Volvo C30 2.5 T5. Very nifty clean car. And, most important, my dad agrees

It's not the brand, it's just fault with your car. You can have the same issues with any brand.

What colour is the smoke? If it's almost pure white then it could be valve stem seals. Sorry if this has been covered, I'm not sure what has or hasn't been done yet.

Maybe you should see if LZ can help you out? Not sure how far Boksburg is from you, but send him a PM and see what he says :thumb:

I can speak here out of expertise, my wife own an s40 t5 as I am the man in the house I always drive the car with her nicely situated in the passenger seat I can tell you it’s not a bad car to drive and performance wise its good, but it is not a BMW. FWD cars irritate me and you don’t feel involve in the car, but it’s a nice safe family car and that’s why we still have it around and avg fuel consumption is not bad @ 8.2L/100km. There are Volvo specialists that we take the car for service and repairs if any and is not that expensive, (car gave no problems at all till date). The B5254T3 engine is super reliable as it is used in many other cars as well as in the latest models of Volvo including the new Ford Kuga. Currently as mentioned I am looking for a new car and it looks like it’s going to be a BMW not a Volvo.

Good luck with the decisions.

I 2nd this motion, better to take it to someone that knows hes stuff. However you have spent alot of money on the car, but wudnt your trade in value be way less than if it was fixed. So in the end of the day you still need to get it fixed. If i was you i wud find the best mechanic on this site, which by looks of it cud be LZ, then giv him one shot to turn that car into what it was meant to be, maybe even do i mod afterwards, like a decat, to increase the fun factor

Did all my research on Volvo. I am quite keen.

Where can I get engines?

I work in sales and would be hesitant to sell you a T5!!!

BMW engines

Thanks for all the input. I don't know if I am more sad or pissed off at this stage. Will chat to LZ

Hi Bud,

How long is a piece of string ?

The problem here is who knows what could have gone wrong, and in particular the fact that you spent 40k on it means somebody was fiddling.

And now the question is, what did they fiddle with.

Rings, Valve stem seals, sump compression, and a ton more could all be the problem.

Your mechanic, who is he, is a member of the RMI, you need to go back to him, and he needs to figure it out.

N46 engines are problematic, this is true, but not smoking, they are mechanically sound...

Hi LZ. He is a BMW mechanic at the Welkom branch. That's closest to where my parents live. ALL the previous problems they struggled with, was the car getting hot, nothing to do with balls of smoke blowing out the car. I am in Jhb, and now I have to find a way to get the car back in the Freestate and find a car somewhere I can use.

I don't know what to do anymore. It started the 13th of September. Adds up to 10 weeks.. New engine with about 90000km is R12000. Looks like the best option at this stage. That, or write the car off
