Don't bother with 325i as it was a dog and wasn't exciting at all.Funilly enough, the 2.5 in the first x3s was also very unpowered.

Cois has a 325 with software and zorst, and by the sound if things, it hauls ass.

I will however be looking at the 330i or 330d if an when I decide to go the E46 route.

Just quaoting personal experience - I think the body was a bit too heavy for that body but te 330 was well matched.Once again personal view

Rather go 330i as they come with bigger brakes as standard and can get similar/better gas mileage than the 325i. The 330i has much more torque and this makes the difference in the heavy E46 body, don't forget the extra KW too!

Rather have the power and not need it than not have the power and need it...

Did the diesels have the same cooling problem as the petrol ? I remember Sankekur wrote about it another thread.

All e46's have the same issues.

And the 325i manual is no slouch. It stays with the 330i auto until about 160km/h. You just need to know how to drive.:fencelook: And 237km/h top speed. And the fuel consumption is waaayyyy better than a 330i. You have to drive a 330i like miss daisy to get good fuel consumption.

Does anybody know on average what the costs are for a new turbo for the E46 330d ? OEM and replacement.

About R11k now roughly direct from Garret SA. Not that you necessarily need it. Netercol posted a great DIY thread on overhauling the GT 2260V VNT turbo on the 150kw M57N 330d motor. Worked out to R1k for the kit when he bought it.

Oh yes here's the thread

IMO buy the 330d with your head or the 330i with your heart.

I miss that pre f/l 330i I had for a short while. The sound was just addictive. It adds so much to the driving experience.

However I'm also loving my 330d more and more as it's getting fixed up. It serves its purpose as a daily remarkably well. (As of yesterday it did 530km on half a tank not using cruise control at 130kmh or more and filling to first click 70% highway) At best I'd get close to 600km in the 330i
