M60 E46 FOR SALE ON GUMTREE

Couldnt find the the thread of someone wanting to put an m60 into an e46 on the forum. Just remember a lot of negativity arround it.

Well, low and behold gumtree always is interesting. Some guy in durbanville has done it and selling his.

"BMW e46 fitted with a BMW 4 litre V8 (N60B40) and e46 M3 6 speed manual gear box. Vehicle is in great condition both inside and out. Black leather interior with electric sport front seats and sunroof. Fitted with 19" mags from a BMW 650. Mags are unscratched and tyres have 60% tread left. Quad pipe exhaust system with free flow boxes - sounds awsome!! Price is R 105 000 neg. I am in Tygervalley. Please contact Hans on 082 302 6628."

Dont know how he mated the e46 m3 gearbox. But it was recently proven that the bell housings are interchangeable between the e46 m3 box and the e34/e39/m5 box. So essentially if you have a v8 6 speed bell housing you can use an e46 m3 box, not saying he did it this way.

The process of interchanging the bellhousings between models is highlighted in the E46 Fanatics thread http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=1046393&highlight=

Car does have facelift front, mtech 1 front and rear plus pre-lci lights. So theres a mismatch, but won't speculate an accident car.

Such an exceptional car that the owner can't wait to get rid of it.
This looks like a typical SA build, fit a big engine into what looks like it used to be a 320i and did not think to do anything to the brakes or to the front suspension. Not to mention the nice hot-air intake that it has going there.

And regarding the negativity it is only partially due the fitting an M60 properly in an e46, but for the most part it was the "other" things....like a roller bearing crank, two roots type superchargers, two throttles on stock management....
Linky: http://www.bmwfanatics.co.za/showthread.php?tid=61537 so you can enjoy the awesome and very expected progress.

I would fix the brakes, bonnet and front wheel offset other than that if the engine is running well it seems good... quite clean for this kind of conversion

would most definitely have a look under the car and check how well the electronics were integrated if I was looking to buy it

Ah there is the thread! Thanks! From the pictures, it doesn't look like the best build. But I cant really comment until someone has viewed the car.

This post was merely to show someone that wanted to do this, that someone has done it, but to what level I don't know.

Thanks Symmar001 - It is my vehicle so it belongs to a fanatic:rollsmile:. The front of m3 gearbox bell housing was cut off and the matching part from the 740 gearbox was welded on to make it fit.

Actually has e39 540 front brakes and the rears are cross drilled and ventilated brakes from e46 330d. The complete sub frame from an 39 M5 was installed to accomadate the engine and take care of the suspension. Trust me when I say many many hours of planning went into this build. It is not perfect but trust me it puts a BIG smile on your face:rollsmile::rollsmile::rollsmile::rollsmile:

:ty: Had to be done to accomadate the engine.

About 2 years ago I saw another one also with an m60.......... Broken......... at Tarlton........ Sideshaft went poof. So no one said anything about it being impossible to fit a NORMAL m60 into an e46.

Regarding the negativity - Actually having a V8 e46 and dreaming about one with 2x superchargers/7 speed SMG/Roller bearing crank (and trying to win support from the yay sayers) are 2 very different things

What engine management system are you using?

Very true Fordkoppie - Nothing is impossible if it is what you really want and are prepared to but effort (and lots of money, blood, sweat, tears and negativity from the haters) into making your dream a reality!

Would be awsome with 2 superchargers...

Dreams give us ambition! Uses BMW management system - it uses 2 bmw computer boxes. One is the e46 box and the other the e38 computer box.

Well I can just judge by looking at the pics posted, and the last pic posted certainly does not look like 540i brakes.

Out of interest why go through the trouble of making a whole M5 suspension fit on an e46 and then fit a M60, why not fit an S62? That said why not fit a proper intake? In all likelihood you are probably losing around 20% power with that cone filter.

2 DMEs to run one engine? Gives me the idea the builder didn't know what he was doing when he built it...That doesn't inspire confidence in the rest of the build either. Just my 2c.

At least it runs on 2 bosch dmes as opposed to having 4 dictators to run it I guess...
