So explain to me why a turbo on the e34 525 is an absolute crap idea, and I am really wasting my time and money ?

Boost is best.

Watch any video of SDP's M50 animal!

Ivan2terribles M50 turbo had basically a bolt on setup and make 249wkw.

Standard e34 540i - 210kw at the fly.
Mild M50 turbo 250kw at the wheels.

That's without taking into consideration that altitude will devastate the 540i!

He recons, sell the 525. buy a 540, and you have the same power output....

the m50 can safely make 550hp on stock internals:thumbs:... the 540 would never do this stock...

who cares about fuel economy? if you want fuel economy buy yourself a polo. if you drive it nicely it will probably be more fuel efficient than it is right now.

boost is fun... and besides, how many boosted 5 series have you seen around?

Ok so here is the logic behind it.

I have this E34. car is not worth much.

I have assisted with some installs, but never did the planning and research myself, let alone full implementation.

I have enough power in my life, if I want break neck speed, I drive the 750, if I want monster torque, I drive the 530d, and if I want old school noise, I drive the Trans-am.

So the only reason why I am considering this, is for self knowledge.

School fees if you will...

Now, the question is, what price are we looking at for school fees, as I am well aware of whatever I spend, I will literally be pissing that money away..

Do it for fun! It will be epic. We all know you won't recover your money if you had to sell, but this is not your primary car, so even though I would usually say it is a crappy idea, I think this time we have to make an exception for epicness!

Oh, and that kit seems quite decent for the price, I did not check the contents, though - looking at it now, it seems like it is quite a small turbo. But it should be a very good start. Buying a cheap upgrade turbo and wastegate should be easy after you fitted that. Just check that it will work on a RHD car.

It will not run properly before you have spent at least R30k.

And if you opt out before it is running properly, you will not even be able to give it away

Piece the turbo kit together yourself, no kit from the states will work as the turbo will sit right where your steering shaft sits. You have plenty space for top mount so choose a turbo and have a custom turbo manifold made up and work from there.
For turbo conversions there are 3 words: FAST, CHEAP and RELIABLE, pick 2.
Fast and reliable won't be cheap, reliable and cheap won't be fast, fast and cheap won't be reliable...

Eye candy!
