im sorry but it weighs too much... no car should weigh over 1600kg its just not right may as well get an SUV...

ideal weight for a car is 1200kg-900kg

now i dont suggest the M5 should weigh that little but 1800 is ridiculous...

I am sure BMW know what they are doing!

If anyone knows about M cars, its BMW themselves. Times have changed and they have to move with the times or risk getting left behind. The fact that some of you would take the E28 or E39 over the F10 tells me that you have not moved on (and you have rocks in your head - :hammerhead: )

BMW cannot base their new M5 on a handful of die-hards. I think they have made a brilliant machine here and I envy those who have theirs on order!

If my name was Sabine Schmitz I wouldn't be looking at purchasing the M5 F10 as I spend my day at the ring.

If my name was Seether, which it isn't either :) then I would be looking at purchasing the M5 F10.

Some of us are already looking back and wondering WTF. Until some kind Martian comes to earth and gives us a lighter cost effective alternative to build cars with, this is what we are stuck with :)

if some rich billionaire gave me a choice between a F10 M5 or a GTR 2011.........I really wouldn't know what to choose :bangdesk:

I am a bit of a pureist I am not trying to take away from the current M5 thats a machine

But I will miss the way BMW used to squeeze every bit of power out of a normally asperated enginer and not rely on turbos to do it for them

ther previous M enginers nearly all won engine of the year awards.

Ah well I supposed times change

///M cars are supposed to be about feeling, not outright numbers. No manufacturer would have an advantage if it was just about power. They'd just add another turbo to catch up. Creating feel/aura is something very hard to attain. It's why Golf GTi will always be king of hatches, even though it's regularly outgunned it is to this day a perfect blend that others can't match. Heritage also plays a part of that blend. Ask the average Audi owner what an RS2 Avant or an S2 Quattro is and you'll get a blank expression...

The F10 is HEAVY, even in when the E34 weighed in at 1,670kg is was considered a tad bloated...

If i should overload my M5 it is still lighter than this Bismarck "read F10 M5" with nothing in it. :fencelook:

So you see Seether - It can be done and has been done in the past, but they chose to add all that sh!t to the car (like e mail as an example).
Maybe the car is so boring they had to try and make up with frills

There is nothing that kills the feel of a car as quickly as weight, because works in on pretty much every aspect of the dynamic capabilities of the car. Lots of weight means you now have to do all kind of special things with suspension to counter this, where if you just kept the weight low, with these special things would have made it brilliant.

This in not going into the connected drive (or whatever it is called) that come on the newer BMW's including this M5 that allows you to access your email and social networking stuff from the car...........WHY? If you have the urge to check your mail or crap on facebook while driving, then the M car is not doing what is supposed to do.

You could take seats, aircon etc out your M5 and this Bismarck "read F10 M5" will leave you and all other competition in the distance and the driver will do it in comfort! He will not notice or care that his car weighs more than yours or the M3 CSL he is leaving behind. The weight of his car is almost identical to the Merc and the people at AMG need to add a performance package to keep up.

Not sure why everyone is getting so worked up about the weight. I dont read any complaints about the feel of the car? Perhaps you guys should watch that Hungarian review to see what the M5 F10 can do. The performance figures and handling are awesome. Its a big 4 door sedan ffs! It does what its meant to do!

Comparing the M5 to a GTR is not a fair reflection, they are not direct competitors. I think the new M5 looks great, and it sounds like it goes like stink too. With BMW's recent design direction, I am relieved it looks this good. We can't stop the march of so-called progress. With time, it will drop like a stone in value (if not weight), be cherished by sods like myself, and eventually become semi-collectible because it's an M. It's the same path they have all followed. Lest we forget, all these cars have had their critics when new. The e39 M5 pushed out the least bhp/l of the truly modern M's, with the induction system strangling the motor yet, today, the car has been elevated to demi-God status. Just my 2c. Und das ist das!

Sith and Seether +1

The F10 is just a classy monster of a car. I think those nay-sayers would change their minds if they had the opportunity to drive it.

M5 F10 FTW

Problem is not the comparative merc, but something like a GTR that gives you much more performance for pretty much the same price.

The new M5 is as fast as the GTR on a rolling start. At higher speeds, I am certain the M5 will be right up there with the GTR. Looking forward to Gustav's videos on M5board.com. The M5 is a BMW, the GTR is a Nissan. As good as the GTR is, there is no comparison when it comes to service and support between the 2 companies. One is a 4 door sedan, the other is a 2 door sports car. The finishes and the features of the BMW are way way wayyyyyy better than the GTR and hence heavier. I would not go GTR just so that I can have a 0.5 - 1 second faster 0-100km/h time.

Each to their own I guess, but the M5 gets my vote

you can't compare the two,
the Gtr will be a better handling car ,so on a track I think a gtr will come out tops.
M5 vs E63 = Fair

 As I have said a couple of times, I am comparing them on terms of price, I never mentioned them being in the same class of car.
