M3 Throttle Actuators

Morning all.

So this weekend the M3 decided to reduce engine power about 4 times while on the highway, not a good experience having very little power. Took it to the dealer and they have diagnosed it as the throttle actuator on bank 1. 23k including labour and parts. However, I've done some research and it seems that bank 2 sometimes also goes after bank 1 replacement. So I'd like to find out if anyone has had their's replaced, if it's a good idea to replace both and if I should look for other options for replacement (i.e independent shops)

Hi

If you in GP, go to Tune Tech, they have a repair with a warranty for around R8k!! Yes just have them do both if you ever replace.

howzit... just double check on this

i've heard that there is a plastic gear that goes in the actual actuator .... this part apparently some folks are 3d printing and you can replace just the gearing internals from plastic to metal... or i might be mixing up my words totally

Nice idea as preventative maintenance but, if the OP has already had the car go into limp mode chances are pretty good that the board is now toast if that is the case then replacement actuators are needed.

OP, if in JHB, speak to Gert @ OBDworx

Thanks for the info I'll give them a call. That sounds like a fair price to me.

Thank you, I will give him a call. Looks like it is indeed the board.
