M2 Comp - True Top Speed and Power Figures

Not sure if I have a Wednesday car but my stock M2 Comp feels much faster than the 302Kw BMW specifies for the M2 Comp. I was comparing it to my C63, which is a V8 turbo and the M2 feels fast. I thought it was just me, but other people who sat in both cars were surprised by the shove the M2 gives you, I maybe thought because its a smaller car and with the coil-overs and harder ride, it gives a greater sense of speed when in motion, but people say I could be wrong.

I did some top end runs with the M2 comp and it reached 286km, before I had.to tap off. I compared it to some youtube videos top speed runs and my M2 reaches its top speed much more easily than other M2 Comps. It does have the M drivers package, and M Performance exhaust, but doubt that will make much of a difference, its just a higher top speed because of the M drivers pack, and no added power, as far as I know.

Anybody with a stock M2 comp we can compare with?

My buddy and I are planning to run some comparisions between the M2 Comp and C63 when we get a chance.

But something seems to be up with the latest M2 Comps, my butt dyno says they are much faster than the power figures BMW reports.

I've also got one, I've been planning to dyno it!

I find in gear acceleration to be crazy, i haven't had a chance against another car yet though and thats when you really realise haha!

Virtually all BMWs are underrated nowadays. Even if you drive a new 330i - feels like it makes the claimed flywheel power at the wheels.

Keen to see the C63 comparisons.

Yip, I concur.

the only run I had so far was with a Jag F-Type SVR, on the highway.
Anyway was cruising on the highway, and that car coming from behind at speed. It had no plates, and came to the side of me and saw it was a F-Type SVR. The guys wanted to go, so we slowed down to 4th gear, and gave it a go. Not sure if the gearbox was slow in react in the SVR, but immediately started to pull away fast. So fast that I slowed down, waited for him to catch up and level off, and then we went again from 3rd gear this time, till the end of 5th.

The M2 Comp was well ahead, then I slowed down to get him to catch up, the guy gave me a thumbs-up, and then started to drive like miss daisy, really slowly. I started cruising again and took the next off-ramp to my destination.

I've had a few runs with a CLS63 5.5 Bi Turbo and i was pulling gaps on him on all the runs. Same happened with an E63 5.5 Bi Turbo. Only had one run with the E63 but i was pulling ahead with ease before hitting 200. My car is completely stock. These M2 Comps are seriously quick cars!

I drove a mate's M2 comp pack last week and was impressed.

If my memory serves me well, the 5.5l bi turbo AMG power output morphed over time. There were 3 variants - 386kw, 410kw and finally 430kw. The torque on the 430kw version was also bumped up from about 700nm to 800nm. The difference in performance between the 386kw and 430kw version is significant. In fact the 430kw version will run an F10 M5 close. I assume that the runs you had were against the earlier variants?

I never post race tales here, but I can assure you it is the 4.0 Bi-Turbo cars that are more of a headache than the 5.5 Bi-Turbos LOL.

Also their gearboxes improved over time, but will overheat after a while...

The CLS looked like a facelift but i can't confirm. The E63 was definitely a first gen 5.5. But for the M2 Comp to outrun these cars, it is very impressive. I would like to see what would happen after 200kph, I reckon those Mercs might start catching after that.

Did the said SVR have twin center exhaust outlets or 4 (two on each side) ?

The reason i ask is because the 4 exhaust SVR is the supercharged V8 and is quite fast.

I'm favourably disposed to both M-cars and AMGs and have no bias either way.

The M2 comp pack surprised me (pleasantly).

Yes, the 4.0l bi-turbo E63 (W213) will pose some difficulty for an F10 M5 (both stock, of course) and not just because of its AWD.

My sense on a shootout between the 430kw/800nm variant of the w212 E63 and an M2 comp pack in a 60-200km/h rolling race (to minimize the effects of disparate driver-skills and traction) is that the Merc will win comfortably every time. And the same variant of the E63 should run an F10 M5 close. If it doesn't, its probably heat-soaked (an affliction to which the Mercs are prone) or not firing on all cylinders.

Regardless, both manufacturers bring something different to the party that appeals to me - which invariably makes it difficult for me to choose between them. Nice for us consumers though that there is a fierce rivalry between the two
