M140i - what is my next upgrade

Hi Guys,

I've had my M140i since March 2018. That means there is less than 6 months until my motorplan is up (done under 30000km, so it is expiring because of time only).

Lets start off with my loves/dislikes of my car:

Loves:
1) The sound
2) The power
3) The way it feels to drive
4) The way the seat molds to my back

Dislikes:
1) Very crashy ride, I feel all the bumps
2) Sunroof/windows have always creaked. BMW have tried to fix, but it keep coming back. With summer pretty much here, my sunroof sounds like a old rocking chair if I keep it closed 🙀
3) As I am on Android, tech is a little limited, but I do use AAIdrive which helps a little.
4) A little cramped in the back when taking passengers
5) I manage to hit (even a small) pothole at least once every 6 months, and I land up replacing 1-2 tires every 6 months. I hate runflats.

So my question is - where do I go from here. I have thought of 3 possible options, and just wanted to get your guy's opinion on them:

Option 1:
Extend the motorplan for another 2 years and continue as is for the next 2 years.

Option 2:
Let the motorplan lapse, and switch the tires to Pilot Sport 4s and the shocks to KW Street Comfort shocks (that would at least fix #1 and #5 of the dislikes)

Option 3:
Trade my car in and perhaps go electric. I was thinking maybe of looking at the i4 M50?

What would you guys recommend if you were in my position?

If you dont want to unleash more power from that beast extend motorplan and continue life.
You can still fit the MPS4S/MPSS tyres while on plan. They are motorplan approved tyres.
Will improve the ride alot compared to the RFT.

If you want the full power of the car:
Take out an unlimited warranty before your motorplan expires with Motorite Vantage (Only available before your factory plan expires)
Fit a TU HPFP
Downpipe
Xcede Tune
MPS4S/MPSS
Lots more fun to drive.

If you live at the coast its difficult to get rid of the squeaks and creaks in F Series. you need to live with it. There are seal and lubricant kits at BMW specifically for the F Series gen. Not sure how well they work.

IMO, its all budget related. The smartest thing would probably be to just let the motor plan lapse and take out an extended
warranty and drive the thing.

If you have money that's burning a hole in your pocket. go for option 3.

That M140i is destined for classic status soon. I would say keep it and get a warranty.

I re read your post.
With only 30,000km, maybe sell it and you will likely get your money back.
If you do get at least your money back, upgrade to an X3 m40i with the spare wheel option included. Will give you more space and slightly better ride and is built better too

I think the i4 is an option worth considering if you can afford it. A family member had one for an entire day and said it’s impossibly fast, and more comfort than his m850i in comfort mode. Obviously you’ll lose the character and sound of the n55 though.

Trouble is that getting an allocation right now is very difficult.

Option 4: Go from an M lite to a "proper" ///M car if you can afford it... new M3 maybe?

Yeah true but thats what you pay for a more premium brand. And not sure that a price of extension should play that much on this. When you can pay R1.5M+ for a car, difference between paying 20k or 30k extra per annum on extension should be nothing. Also that Porsche is going to definitely keep its value much more than the BMW, way offsetting the extra 30k or whatever per annum. R30k per annum additional is not even a 1 month installment on a R1.5M car 🤣

If you decide to sell your car, give me a shout bud. 👍🏼

G series X3/4 M40i/d.. Will surely solve bumpy ride without compromising power..

in the same position. have a 2017 140i. and I can't see what else I can upgrade too besides breaking the bank ( above a million) that can give me the same thrill.. I'm deciding to keep mine, I do have other toys ( e36 325i and e39 530i) that keep me satisfied. I'm keeping it stock standard, I'm a sucker for stock cars... I have a friend who has an X4 M40i. dope dope ride but I'm not the biggest fan of SUV's. quick car, space and sounds descent but not as fun as that M140i.. for me its a keeper!. maybe get an X3 older model for the sensible things. then the 140i for when u feel like setting your senses on fire.
