M135i 8sp auto or M135i Man....?

What, bearing in mind the possibility of a trade-in before the 5yrs is up, would hold it's value better....The manual or the auto?

It seems like a silly question but rather stupid question than a stupid mistake.

Am going to look at one tomorrow. It is the new M135i hatch. Not sure of the F number.

Thanx for any thoughts on this.

Facelift coming out soon. Might want to wait

Have read about that also....but the finance situation at the moment, i would be in a better boat with a deal on the current one.

Seen some spy shots and not much difference except the nose piece...well at least what i can see from the pics anyways.

If you are only asking in relation to Depreciation:

The Auto will hold value better
Xenons will help
Sunroof will help

When I spoke to a salesman once upon a time he said those 3 are the tick boxes for resale.

Auto generally holds better value, however I turn over a few more cars than I should and always seem to get a decent price because they are a little different from standard (available in the market)

M135i is a drivers car through and through, yes the auto may be quicker but I think in 5 years when you sell, having a manual will make it stand out from the norm and if supply is low you can generally get a better price. (no science in this at all by the way)

There are a few guys on this forum that should you offer them a manual 330D (e90) which are pretty scarce they would probably pay more than they should have, because they are few and far between.

Ultimately 5 years is a long time to own a car, so it should be about what you will enjoy the most each day when you climb in.

From a pure driver enjoyment point of view, take the manual.
Why?
Who makes a better manual gearbox than BMW? No one!!!

Might as well enjoy it, while its still available...

Drive both & see which you prefer more. I drove manual cars for the last 10 years. Last month I bought my first auto (DCT Yo!) and haven't regretted it for a second. Miss the manual from time to time but I don't regret getting an auto.

Before 5 years are up, the Auto might be more favorable, but beyond that, the manual will always have higher value.

Just look at e46 M3s.

Now that they are 10 years old, you cant give away an SMG, while the manuals are fetching way more than what they are worth. Yet the SMG was more expensive to buy when new.

Auto is more troublesome when old - FACT

I don't know if the E46 SMG argument is quite the same. The SMG gearbox always was a piece of shit, and the manual was simply miles better from the outset. But these new auto gearboxes are so good that they are becoming the default choice, so its likely that the average buyer will prefer them because there is so little compromise, with manuals only being preferred by the purer enthusiasts.

Having said that, I agree that if they prove to be unreliable over time (like say, the E46 autoboxes), then a manual is a better option.

^1 SMG is much more prone to failure than a traditional auto.

I'd go for a manual, but the auto is a better all-rounder. Faster too.

I have an 8SP Auto coming from two manual sports cars I am beginning to miss the manual :)

The 8 Speeds auto is fantastic though its so quick... ZF FTW  On a side note the Audi RS7 also uses a ZF Box :praise:

Thanx for all the input gents! :bravo:

It seems that a deal is in the works for an auto M135.

I have driven both the man and auto. The auto doesn't even feel like an auto. The shifts are so quick!!!

The manual is also tons of fun. Very divided on it. But at the end of the day it is all about the deal that can be done.

Will update soon as i get an answer or have the prospective car parked in my garage!!
