M badges on non-M cars

That being said, a 320i with an M added on is one thing, but the other day I saw a 320i with the 320i removed and a "proper" M3 badge.

You think that's bad? I saw an ad on an M3 Group in the USA where a guy was selling a 320i with an M3 badge on the back. The crazy thing is, he was selling the car as an M3. Literally said it was an M3. Even though in every photo you could cleary see it was a sedan (4 doors), one small exhaust pipe. No M3 bumpers or mirrors. Just the badge.

Eventually the guys on the forum got the seller to admit to the car being a 320i.

i can believe this... when i was looking for a car a few years ago, i came across a e39 "M5". it turned out to be a 540i with a m5 bodykit on it, and had quad exhaust tips.. with the proper M5 mags too. initially my eyes lit up when i saw it, i thought hell yes.. finally i found a e39 M5!!!!!!

all became obvious once i looked at the interior.. and when i opened the bonnet the first thing i said was... WTF is this shit!!!?!? while the owner was standing next to me. he backpeddled from it being a legit M5.. to it being a 544i (because its a 4.4L V8) which was built by the M division...and it was better than a standard 540i. at that stage, i kindly told him to get stuffed.. and walked off.

so there really are opportunists who take advantage of the M badges on a car.

Imagine a poor person who doesn't know cars that well, and falls for this trap. I'd be more than furious with this guy. :RedNo:

the thing is, this was an obvious example.. it was easy to tell from a legit M, because i knew what i was looking for.

however, i've seen a few times on this forum how people have seen e30 coupes...but badged as 325is all over the place. and the only way to tell is with the VIN number whether its real or not. its scary

Although these can too be changed, you can also check the wheels if it's 4 or 5 hole.

Dont feel targeted because we dont like it. If you like it, by all means put those lovely ///M badges on but do know that only you will think it is cool. We dont like it as it is a disgrace to the M series for putting those badges on a non M.

Those M people (M3, M5, M6, M2 and 1M) have paid thousand more than you for their cars, respect them.

Its not about the money, its about sending a message. An M car is the epitome of performance. When you stick an M badge on something mundane, you are diluting that message.

You must see how well these M powered Taxis perform.

On a serious note, I could never understand why there is so many M badges littered all over the Msport models.
Its your car, you can do with it as you please. Remember opinions is like A-holes, everyone has one, but you the only one paying for your car, and having to live with it.
