Hi guys
I recently replaced the oil filter housing gasket on my e46 and everything was fine for about 2 weeks...washed the car on saturday and wanted to take it for a drive but noticed a slight oil leak at bottom which progressively got worse as i pulled out the driveway. to be safe pulled car back in driveway...
i opened the bonnet with car idling and noticed there is some play on one of my pulleys. what i am thinking the play may have caused the oilfilter and alternator housing move a bit and hence the oil leak started again...
in my haste when i put the belt back reassambled everything the tensioner on pulley might not have been tightened enough on the top pulley...
that is the only thing i can think of. is the spring loaded pulley that uses a hex bolt instead of the the one that takes the torx in the middle....
i am 99% sure this is the problem...any second thoughts on what it could be...
the car is standing as we speak and i will start to strip again...i think i was too happy to get the car done...
