It very much depends on driving style. You can use lots of fuel driving slowly and lots of fuel driving quickly, but in both cases you can use far less fuel just by managing your power and the old trick of using engine braking more than actually using the brakes at the last minute to slow down.
These things don't like sitting still and idling, or lots of stop/start driving with hills etc. But once cruising at speed they eat up the road with decently little fuel!
I always reset my average fuel consumption when filling up and for the first few kilometres the consumption is really high since it is low speeds and getting back into the traffic etc, but after a few minutes it is back down to a reasonable figure.
