So another quick update... car went in for what is probably the last service under motorplan. Alignment of extensions to the end of finance worked out well for me.

Replaced turbo coolant lines (AGAIN) - it was a really tiny slow leak this time, but a leak nonetheless. Vaporised coolant stinks even in small amounts.
Checked compression on all cylinders, checked all injectors both physically and via system (replaced seals too)
Replaced oil sensor
Updated software on various control units.
Most importantly: new discs and pads front and rear... this was most of the rather extensive bill. I have to say that the discs do last a VERY long time (this is the 3rd set of fronts and (I think) second set of rears, and this is probably the last set of discs the car will have in its life.

Shiny and with cross hatching still visible LOL

On top of the white LED kit I had previously fitted, I added an RGB footwell lighting kit which is essentially two T10 LEDs that clip into the housings with minimal effort and a remote controller for the colours. They can be brightened and dimmed and have a few effects that have no place on a car (Flashing, strobing etc) but they do modernise the interior a bit vs. the amber ambient lights.

Glad you got most of the items attended to on plan. With regards to the turbo coolant lines, is there an upgrade kit for it? oh and where are the 20s? :fencelook:

Now that Motorplan is finished I think this car needs to be for sale :fencelook:

Asking for a friend if it’s for sale :ty:

Long time no post. Been busy (which when you work for yourself is a good thing!) as well as getting my little beetle project underway.

That doesn't mean the bahnstormer is being neglected.

I made a very heavy hearted decision to sell the HRE rims when I found someone with a set of 343Ms... only to discover that the rims were reps (good reps, but reps). Dude if you're reading this, I hope you have satisfied yourself that they are in fact reps and the totally wrong offsets for either M5 and M6 that you paid R20K for...

Anyway there are time wasters and then those that leave you in this position...

:eek:mgwaiting:

But anyway after being argued with in my driveway, I found myself sitting with a full set of Pilot Sport cup 2s waiting for a set of 20" forged rims that nobody seems to be selling, a nearly new rear pair of Super Sports on my 19s but with fronts that were basically on the canvas... This situation couldn't continue much longer, so I had to drop more money on Super Sports (I wanted the front and rear to match LOL) getting this in order.

Anyway on they went together with a set of ST Suspension 12.5mm spacers. @Holiman hooked me up (another thing I bought in anticipation of the 20" 343Ms! You can see it will take me some time to get past this :thumbdo::roflol:)

My love/hate relationship continues with the 345M which, when spaced correctly, have concave and presence that few aftermarket wheels can match IMHO.

Say what you will about OEM/Cast wheels, or cast wheels on a fast heavy car with South African roads, but in 135000km these guys are still straight and have no vibrations or wobbles. Just a few chips here and there.

I say name and shame, especially if it's a fellow fanatic, this is supposed to be a family here, can't be having people doing fellow Fanatics down

No username... he saw it on the forum so I am sure this is being read, but got my details via someone on here or one of the groups. Anyway he seemed genuinely convinced they were originals hence no naming and shaming. Doesnt help me but I guess he is also worse off somehow if he really did pay 20k for reps.

Over the years I have seen quite a few of these come up... There are also guys who have four fronts, a mix of originals and reps, an M6 front and M5 rear or vice versa, machined centres... dude with a 528i who I could see just from pics had bought an M6 set without test fitting... and so many people even referring to 19" 343M and even 433M as OEM or original... I was perhaps too trusting on this one from the description and more focused on other things as well to do my normal interrogation.

I would rather stay on the civil side without naming but the story is one I do want to share so people understand just how much time and effort can be wasted when you have these stacked deals and one element doesnt pan out.

Anyway two of the other deal elements went very well selling to and buying from fanatics, as well as another fanatic and sponsor getting business out of it. The community is a generally good one.

Another forumite came to the party with astonishing OEM brand new in box pricing on 601M wheels direct from BMW (and I mean more direct than via dealer...) which I am also probably going to grab (if not at once than in two goes) so my sport cup 2 has something to go onto.

Good outweighs the bad by a heck of a long way

Small update

Been quite busy both with business and being offered jobs where businesses want to hire me based on the work I've been doing

:roflol:

Anyway

Here is a shot of ceramic coated tyres (Gyeon Tire Q2). Will report back on longevity. You use a hairdryer to cure the product onto the tyre.

You can see that it is actually quite unique in that you can't "see" any silicone/coating at all. I love the finish.

I am also thinking of adding a garage mate and I've been looking at some options.

Of course I can't stretch to this particular GT2 with Weissach package on it.. not yet anyway... but it is definitely a garage goal!

Also looked at the Supra which was a bit of a mixed bag. Ultimate the M2C at nearly 100K cheaper than the Supra for a new one (from ABM anyway) is the better choice. Toyota should probably have built the Supra on that instead...

I keep talking about this 'last service under plan' but the car went in for a new aircon evap unit (itself a very involved affair) and whilst poking about they discovered an oil leak which needed attention.

This was a good chance to have a look at the innards of the motor, for metal filings or any evidence of issues with the oil pump... look at the chains, inspect the bushings, mounts etc

It was a very involved process with the subframe having to come off and proper application and curing of the sealant etc taking several days. Good time to clean everything off properly as well. Car also (obviously) has alignment done afterwards. I would rather have it done properly than rushed though.

Apologies, some might find these pics quite graphic LMFAO

Got fed up dealing with the idiots selling wheels recently. Thieves, morons, simply uninformed and somewhere in between... There are few things that piss me off more than someone negotiating in bad faith or insulting my intelligence. I had too much of this during this long search and just ended up buying new from BMW.

343M reps are everywhere - and are quite sophisticated

Genuine 343 and 601Ms that are available at 'non negotiable' prices are in need of serious repair/refurb which actually pushes the overall cost beyond what a brand new set costs from BMW. The "I know what I have" mentality and "but you drive an M so can't negotiate" attitude is just not on... Sure you can get a bit more money out of these things, but when you can literally go and buy it from the dealer for the same or, in the case of Gumtree shitty Carbon fibre bits, LESS at the dealer, things have gone very wrong! Folks like this have been sitting with them for over a year, with crap or incorrectly sized tyres but still hope to get someone off Gumtree to buy... I've even seen 345Ms priced the same as 343Ms and listed as Forged...

Guys still (after all these years) post M6 sets as M5 compatible. I can understand guys not realising the DRAMATICALLY different rear offset at first but you waste all of your time confirming details only to discover these things simply won't work and it is obvious the guy has been lying to you...

Good sets, priced well go in no time (I've missed sets at TWS where it was gone in literally a matter of hours).

Anyway, finally here we go: 601M finally on the car. Looks even better in the metal.

Looks excellent. Always been a fan of these wheels.

Was racing a M6 yesterday (he didn't know I was racing) and it had the style 601 wheels. Changes the whole presence of the car :praise:
