Why contact the previous owner? Just complete change of ownership. I signed on behalf os seller many times on my own forms.

i tried... cant get hold of him... And what's worse is that records show(which the traffic department cant give me) is that the prev owner not the registered owner!!!So i cant just do the change of ownership myself coz i dont know who is the registered owner :argh: now i need to track down the guy that had the car before him!

Shouldn't it be registered as a rebuild and thus not need the previous owners signature? :fencelook:

Have it scrapped and reregister a new build :fencelook:

The only crap thing then is that you have to provide every damn slip and proof of transaction for every nut and bolt on the thing.

Okay, so i just got off the phone wit the motor vehicle registration office and i have to get an affidavit stating that i cannot locate the owner - from sap and go to any municipality office and they should be able to inform me of the next steps to take. To be honest it did not sound convincing at all!! But what else am i to do:nonono:

I had a car re-registered as a rebuild a few years ago, I went to SAP they had to confirm the vin number on the car and the motor was not stolen, wrote an affidavit stating that the car is a rebuild and I don't have a copy of the old papers or the previous owner's details and he could not be located. After everything was confirmed that nothing was reported stolen they registered it :fencelook:

Now that's what i was told that sounded so much easier... Made all the arrangements yesterday morning at the police clearance office and booked the car for data dot and then was told at the traffic office that it wont work like that and i must first get hold of the previous owner...(this rebuild has take place over 2years!!:argh:)

I think i am just going to go ahead with it as i am off for the next week and see how far i get

This is risky business. Imagine the car was a stolen vehicle. They would impoundd it on the spot and you will never see any of your investment again.

We need to be vigilant about buying cars guys.

You check out the status on eNatis before you buy. Every other guy has a contact. Find a way.

On facebook there is a lady Marsha Genesh... youll find her on Classic cars for sale in SA group on Facebook. She assists in these situations. At a price I presume.
