Jezebel Engine Rebuild... Part 2

All I can say is, listen to your gut, Its usually right! Maybe sell it and buy a clean M3 with very low mileage and count your losses. Sometimes a car becomes a money pit with no end.

You should look at it this way, Think about how much it will cost to actually do this properly, new head etc etc, so that you can drive it like an M everyday and never have to worry if a something in your engine is going to go pop.

Putting it together with a crappy welding job where one guy is telling you shit is going to fall out is enough to stop me from sleeping.

With my M3 this year, I went through the same kak, engine rebuild, people stuffing up, costing me more and more money, eventually i got rid of he thing and I have never looked back.

That's just my 2c

Crash you are under full CPA and they have done really shoddy work, tell them to fix it until you are pleased with it or refund your money and buy a another good head.

Then be extra careful when rebuilding that new head, triple check everything.
Get 2nd, 3rd, 4th opinions on the new head and the work before you even put in the car.

There is so much work been already put into that car, it would be a shame to let it go to waste.

Anyone would feel this way having a car, spend money and never drive it. It gets to you I know. Have a sleep on it and hear what they say.

I agree that if a car starts giving too much hassles, ditch it before it becomes a money pit.

However

This isn't any M3.

The quality and worth of all the components combined that's gone into this car is quite something. When it's running again it will be quite superior to most M3's on the road. In every aspect. And to get another one to that level is going to far outway the costs of your head issues.

Chris I really feel for your loss with the car thus far. But look at it this way, it's more of a time issue than money issue.

The sad thing is that it's probably a case of "out of sight out of mind" and the longer this takes, the less you'll want the car.

You know the figures and what you want. You could probably make your money back on the car but won't be able to replace it for the same...

Good luck with the decision man

Crash, I remember reading matt's extensive build threads and something always didn't up.... I know matt spent a ton of money and the name branded quality components in this car's engine bay are something every M enthusiast drools over.... But like I say, something just doesn't add up, if you take into account the car's entire breakage history it makes you sit down and wonder what's next.... Look I'm really not trying to be a pessimist but its sad when you pay X amount of money into a car... I ultimately sold my M when it stopped making financial sense because say whatever you want, but you will seldomly recover any money you spend on your car

Anyways, I wish you all the best with the build and I hope you manage to reach a decision which your head, heart and bank balance all agree with

Every part of my body is telling me to sell this car...

but I dont want to... this really fucking sucks.

Don't give up now having come so far, you are nearly there. Once you have this engine running it's going to run for a long time, don't worry...

I know its hard not to be negative but giving up now will leave you with nothing but regret... getting this done and actually getting some enjoyment from the car will make it worth it :)

beat everything with a hammer to make sure it will not break put it back together and give it a go

worst case if blows up and you have an awesome chassis with very good bits on to pop a 2JZ into :fencelook:

See the thing is, you need to find out if these guys that did the head are willing to come to the party which by this stage they seldom do! Which puts you in a kak position as they are in possession of your car which is ALWAYS the fuck up! So what usually happens is they get angry with you and tell you lies after lies to falsely reassure you week after week that things are going to be cool, while you wait everyday for good news that never comes up and you delay calling them because you don't want to be told the same shit.

Then comes the sabotage that some of these mechanics do and swapping of engine parts or other parts of your car, that they think you wont notice. Then eventually you get your car back but it never quite feels right and gives more and more problems and things mysteriously start to break, and certain things stop working that always used to work, but you overlook it because ur just happy to have the car back.

Eventually the car becomes so problematic that you are unable to sell it for a descent price and have to practically give it away just to cover your losses.

I have been in these positions more times than I care to count with cars I thought I could get sorted for a set amount of money! Till its actually at a mechanic then suddenly the bills start to rack up.

I drove my M3 to a mechanic, and I had to take it away from that mechanic on a fucking flat bed after around 8 or 9 months of waiting!! To take it to Sav speed just to get it running again so that I could sell it because after spending a sum of money that equaled the price I paid for the car I was fed up and despised the car, every time I looked at it I vomited in my mouth, I don't wish this on anyone!

So what I think you should do is find out very fast what the plan of action is with these mechanics and make a decision to keep the car or sell it fast! An M3 is not the kind of car that you want racking up bills, My E36 racked up a deposit on a house in bills for the engine rebuild, and I now have to sell my Bike because I am still suffering financially because of that piece of shit German shit spec M3! I would hate to think what an E46 is costing you!!

I am not trying to make you feel shit, I am just trying to give you an idea of how bad this could turn, and by the looks of things so far, shit is going south fast!

This is what I would do if I was you and was adamant on keeping the car!

I would call a flat bed to come collect the car, I would take that head that they fixed for you and turn it into a coffee table and go to sav and get a proper head that doesn't look like it was sand papered down and welding work that looks like a metal sponge!

I would not pay those mechanics a cent for that job.

This is only if I was adamant on keeping the car!

I've felt the same way about my 540. After 4 years of driving the E30 I had never even touched another stationary object with it. The 540 has traded paint 3 times in less than a year of which only one is really my fault. I also discovered some bad rust behind the left rear tail light. It will need to cut out and replaced. Not to mention all the mechanical failures... clutch fluid line exploding, slave cylinder giving in, new clutch, new slave, new fluid line, then found the slave was wrong, another new slave from BMW at stealer prices, new fan blades + viscous, engine mountings broke, another new fan, new engine mountings, new radiator, radiator leaked, mechie just added stop leak, new water level sensor, weather strip around windshield broke loose on highway... bmw wanted R80 for each clip of which I need 16... just used silicon on the clips, new water pump, new V belts, new pulleys, now water is leaking again somewhere and I still have to replace the seals for the tapped covers as oil is sweating passed it and I eventually want to respray the entire car.

I'll be lucky if I get R60 for it so that's why I'm keeping it... and I do love driving it. It's just fantastic :fishwack:

You have no idea Spider. I only had her for 3 weeks when this happened, of which 1 of those weeks she was at SavSpeed getting shims adjusted and another week I was on a film shoot. So I only really had her for 1 week. She's been sitting at Gtech for over three months now.

To put it into perspective. If Jezebel broke on the 1st of January, today would be April 11th.

Thats how long I have not had her.

wow thats so sad and it makes me :cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry:

Thanks guys.

I'm feeling a little bit stronger about it today.

Hell, this car is so amazing and when she did work, she blew every other M3 i drove against out the water. Andy is right, she's not just a normal M3, she can't just simply be replaced.

I'm going to spend the time and money needed to get her working and looked after. She deserves it and doesn't need to be another S54 thrown away and abandoned.

She'll be back.

And I'm changing her name...

Really sorry bud, it truly sucks big time, i had my astras engine redone 3 times in 2 years, had a huge issues with the engineers and i went through 3 of them until i cut my losses and sold the car, my mistake was using the same mechanic. If i had taken it to another workshop i would most probable still have that car. :nonono:

Osiris is right, get the car out of there get a new head
