Jezebel Engine Rebuild... Part 2

So, latest news on this build...

I did some more research into why a valve would drop and it turns out that if a Shim is not within tolerance of the valve, it could fall out and thus, cause the valve falling.

That being said, remember that I sent the car to SavSpeed a week before she broke, to have valves/shims adjusted. Sav did the job very quickly whilst being really busy at the same time. Does this necessarily mean the valve dropped cause he replaced the shims inside the car with ones that were not within tolerance?

Man, this sucks. Cause we all know Matt Q looked after this car and only wanted the best. Sometimes I wish I had a time machine, so I could go back to when I first got the car. I want to see if the valve still would have dropped if I never sent her for shim adjustments.

FYI, Sarel has a pretty good rep WRT his cylinder head work. If you're unhappy, i suggest you sit down with him and hash it all out.

Hey Wikk, ya I did go have a word today.

I've done my research. Sarel is one of the TOP GUYS in this line of work. I mean, he's built some amazing cars that are really really strong. Repaired heads that were doing 300kw on the wheels before the repair, and went on to do 300kw on the wheels after the repair. HE IS THE MAN TO GO TO from what I was able to find out from the net, forums and speaking to other people.

I guess I was just freaking out hearing from Sav that the seat would drop out. I went and had a chat with both Lee from Gtech and Sarel about it, and they reassure me that the seat will NOT COME OUT.

So... faith restored. I'm going to give this a shot and see what happens. If I feel any loss of power or funny vibrations. Anything that isn't the norm, I'll get a new head. Right now, I have to pay for the work done, and they were showing me previous heads that have had way more damage than mine that were fixed exactly the same and have gone on to continue doing many many KM's since the repair.

its just dust

Crash have a talk with them about the pits in the head considering where you taking this car I dont think it will be good at all because I would think they will create hot spots causing detonation later when the car is boosted... If they still going to do more work to close up the holes then its no worry...

Ya, I asked them to fix those pits.

They reckon they will fill with Carbon. I think I am going to invest in a new head and swap it over when I boost the car.

maybe someone with more knowledge can put in their 2c but from what i know carbon in the combustion chamber will make hot spots...

Im not sure what the difference will be between having big lumps in the holes and the light coating normally found inside the engine? I would guess the lumps will be hotter as it will effect how easily heat gets conducted out the chamber though the metal...

You have no idea Spider. I only had her for 3 weeks when this happened, of which 1 of those weeks she was at SavSpeed getting shims adjusted and another week I was on a film shoot. So I only really had her for 1 week. She's been sitting at Gtech for over three months now.

To put it into perspective. If Jezebel broke on the 1st of January, today would be April 11th.

Thats how long I have not had her.

Chris,

Dont let them clean that car, leave the dust as is.

If some clown with a bucket and an old cloth gets hold of it, your going to scratch her to tears.

Let them finish, and then tell Lee to send the car over to me...

You guys are not going to believe this.

The head was pretty much finished. 30 minutes away from completion. Jezebel is now sitting ready waiting for the head to be put back inside her, when suddenly, whilst installing the last Valve Keeper/lock/Taper, it cracked and broke.

This is in fact, the new hardened 6mm Keeper from Vac motorsports. So we've emailed them asking what's the story? We have two extra seats that they sent along with the valves, but we don't want to take a chance and find out these Keepers are defective and they break when the car is under load. These things should be able to handle massive stress when inside the engine, not just snap when being put into the head.

So once again, another snag appears in my rebuild of Jezebel. I would have had her back by this Saturday had this not broken this morning.

What is going on here? I mean, I have such shit luck. One thing after another.

Anyway, here is the part that broke...
