Jezebel Engine Rebuild... Part 2

Needless to say, I am absolutely furious.

These guys that Gtech sent my head to are clueless as to what they are doing.

Today, over 3 months since the head was sent to them, they tell me that they need 1 retainer and a size 2.3mm shim. Now I figured these guys would have realized that these two parts were damaged when the car was brought to them. You'd think they would have check and would have told me to get the parts 3 months ago. Not today.

This is all that needs to be put into the head to finish the job. Its like going take a shit and then look for toilet paper afterwards.

What makes it worse, I went to BMW to get the Valve Retainer (or also known as a Upper Spring Plate) and they tell me its a 3 week wait as there are no shims or retainers in the country. Also, that they will be closed in 3 weeks and that I would most likely only get the part in January. If you look at the diagram below. Part 11 is what is missing.

I am so fucking pissed off.

So, I went to SavSpeed, and he luckily has the shims I need. I bought them for R100 but unfortunately he has no Valve Retainers. I showed him the pics of my head and guess what... he says the Valve seats are coming back out again. He's done this many times with M3 engines that have had their heads damaged from Valves dropping and he recommends getting a 2nd hand head. He said he could source me a head for R10k. Pretty much the price I am paying these other morons to fix my head.

I feel like such an idiot now. I should have just gone to SavSpeed 3 months ago and got this done there. It would have been fixed already and 100% working. I'm so fucked off.

Its not necessarily Gtechs fault, but this guy they use to weld and fix the head is useless..

That sucks ass man. So hard to get quality work done, but guys like to charge high quality prices.
Burgy now sells Turner Motorsport kit, they would be able to get missing parts alot quicker then the dealer.

Damn I can only imagaine how you must feel! :argh:
Pay so much money but people couldn't give a damn.
I can't wait to have my own house with a lift and teach myself a bit about mechanics.
Overseas the guys help each other out with almost everyting in their backyard. Thats true pride right there!

With all the money spent on this car you could have had Nuckleuz's M or even Legacy's... I too wish I knew what I know now about M's.

Its hard to cut your losses and give somone else a better car than you had after fixing problems.

Holding thumbs boet

Really sorry to hear this and I hope you come right. :sorry:

Alu welding is probably the most difficult thing anyone can attempt, almost impossible even for skilled guys to get it right.

I am going through a very similar experience with my rebuild but fortunately am doing all the work myself except where I have to rely on a machine shop where I start praying to the car gods it goes ok.

I got some emergency valve parts from Autohaus AZ and they are frikkin brilliant. Shipped via UPS and at my door in a few days, try them for the retainer, I was most impressed.

Thanks Rick.

Looks like I am going to just buy the head from SavSpeed, not take a chance with this alu weld job. All I need is for the damn head to drop the valve seat and boom goes my engine. Its either a 10k knock now, or a massive 100k knock when my entire engine goes.

But Yusef, M3M5 just gave me a call, he's going to try help me out with a retainer and a good price on a second hand head. So a big thanks to him for calling me and wanting to help out. I really appreciate it.

Im glad you going for a new head... I can weld aluminium and it is very difficult to do without getting porosity... did not want to say anything earlier because i did not want to be a downer and you had already gone quite far with the job...

I don't know if I would be happy with that head work. Especially on an M3.:yuck:
