As already highlighted, don't delimit when under mplan...... developing a relationship with your dealer also goes a long way....

When I coll my M3 sales told me there was another client with F10 M5 couple days before to trade in & all M's / Turbo bmw's must 1st get checked on line before trade in value is given ..
Sadly car was flagged & client told Bmw SA will contact him ..
Apparently his car was de-limited & speeds of +-300kmh was recorded !!

So I presume the MP was cancelled? But what happen if the owner trade it in anyways? Wonder if BMW will reinstate the MP to make a sale:fencelook:

That would be making a false statement.......

It was explained to me that all new BMWs have a FASTA system which monitors everything, boost pressure, speeds, revs etc..
when your car goes in for repairs it automatically sends this info to BMW Germany when connected to the dealers systems.
if you running JB4 your boost pressure will go above boost pressure that BMW has programmed for and so they will know you had a tune. otherwise why else would the boost being going that high?
so according to that it doesnt matter if the whole system unplugs and you can delete error codes, all that info is still there.
for normal servicing this wont be an issue because i doubt that they will be checking every car, but if there is major repairs they will be checking and according to BMW it will be bye bye motorplan.
Anyways Im not saying dont do it because i love JB4 im just relaying info that was given to me by a number of BMW technicians..

I've read about this too.

This also doesn't help me since my unit is in the garage waiting to be installed:bangdesk::argh:

It's the risk one takes. However I do not think anyone can make a statement that it's undetectable.

As far as I understand these piggy back units, they intercept the signal from the various sensors and adjust them to get the car to request for example extra boost. So even though the car is boosting 1.4bar it will only be reporting 1.2bar boost to the ecu. Whole bunch of parameters they then bullsh!t like this to get the car to react differently.

If that is how it works, then there shouldnt be a way for the ecu to pick it up.

My philosophy is, if your car is under MP, and you cant afford to live without that MP, leave it stock.

Heck my car is stock, and look at the trouble I had with BMWSA for a parrot kit that was in the car, when they sold it to me.

Yes. But I think what some of us nervous owners would like to know is what exactly is those risks? By that I mean, remove unit, clear codes, can BMW still pick up any trace of the tune? Obviously if you leave the unit in and/or do not clear codes, you're stupid and BMW should rightfully void you MP because you asked for it.

Heres my personal opinion on this. Its more of an assumption.

With most of the BMW range going the turbo charged route i am sure BMW would have developed a way to detect tunes or existence there of.

This more so to protect them from MP claims.

Bottom line if you cant live without your MP wait till it expires.

I think it also depends on your dealer as well.

My buddy of mine told me of a 135i that came in to the dealership for some work. They found the tuners unit in the car, the owner did not take it out. Wires loose and spliced.

Anyway they inform the workshop foreman, he calls the owner and he tells him that he can come and collect the car and remove the unit, bring the car back for the repair and they wont void the MP.

This guys tells them they are stupid because he brought the car in before and they did not pick up the tune and hes not going to remove the unit.

Bye Bye MP as they were trying to be nice to him.

Not repairing my air con because I am running a plug and play chip? Or not performing a service? Is that fair? If I blow a turbo because I was boosting too much sure, dont pay for the turbos, but voiding the entire MP due to an unrelated mod borders theft.

We all know how BMW like to operate wrt motorplan. My ENTIRE MP was suspended, for a parrot kit THEY fitted to the car before I bought it.
As far as I know, it will be near impossible to get a answer from anyone that can confirm they will only void a certain part, hence its safer to leave the car stock, unless you can afford to go without MP.

And its this exact behaviour from BMW that makes it important for us to know if a specific mod is:
1. Safe
2. Detectable by BMW

The MP approved chip on my 328, bumps boost up by .7bar!! JB adds .2 bar. If BMW deems +.7bar safe, then .2bar should be no problem

Bottom line..... If a tune is found your MP cancelled. T & C

I believe if your stock car is used for any motorsport while under MP it is reported your MP is void.
