I’ve emailed mirror John if they can quote using a courier service instead of the postal service. Will let u guys know, maybe we can do a group buy if other people want as I need to replace my mirror glass too so will most likely order it from them .

If u need assistance with SMG, csl software or pump repairs or upgrades , msg me, I know someone who does it in jhb.

Power brake are moving over to only supporting the 4x4 community which is what Peter said to me . So if u can get brakes from them for the m3, rather do it sooner than later because u may not get it later on.
Yes add me on the list for the mirror.

Update on the maintenance as mentioned above.

So I sent to to a reputable mechanic,
Report is as follows
1. Subframe crack - in the infancy stage, no need to do any as yet
2. All the engine Gaskets need to be replaced. (Stripping job), expected it its a 20 year old car, it still has the original Gaskets.
3. Big end bearings, check on the wear, will make a call, (expected it)
4. Engine mounts worn to be replaced
5. Gearbox fault, "long standing time fault ",
6. Central locking actuator replacement (my request)
7. Minor electrical faults due to battery cleared and reset.
8. All belts(altenator, air con ,rollers, pulleys) replaced.
9. Gearbox fluids replace

Overall cost R35k. In for 3 weeks.
Fortunately I bought the car under budget, so I have R50k left over for these initial preventive maintenance work.

Near future to a year, I must plan on doing the following.

1. LSD reconditioning.
2. Subframe reinforce/repair.

The platform of the car is good and not in a messed up state. I was just pedantic and just wanted everything checked and do major preventive work. Cause , 1. It's an old car, al , 2. Sports car.

Rather cry over maintenance costs than a fancy ornament in my garage.

PS went to a BMW dealership just to ask price of badges as they've faded. I literally laugh with the sales guy. Rear badge came out to R1300. So dealership are officially a write-off for me.

Well done on doing it the right way sir. Just be mindful 35k for all that seems cheap if the motor is gonna get stripped down i think a complete set of gaskets set me back nearly 10k for top and bottom and that was in 2015.

Badges honestly your car is a SMG car it's never going to be as valuable as a manual, get some non OEM badges they still look much better than a faded out old one.

The plot thickens.

Extra cost.

Big ends being done. Look at that shiny copper,
It was ten-to- engine failure.

I can say that I kind of anticipated this.

Philosophy of Maintenance first before nice to haves.

new gasket (steel cover next to oil sensor) (diy)

honestly..i saved all in all over R8000 in labour which is not bad at all

Last year I saw one at city deep auto, a front smash that looked very repairable. The rest of the car was in immaculate condition, definitely owned by a meticulous enthusiast. I hesitated when I noticed the strut brace was slightly bent, indicating the strut tower had moved inwards. I still kick myself for letting it go. Congrats on the car

Any updates?
Cars has been good,

Runs kind of tighter, no gearbox issues or am i burning out the SMG pump (learnt how to drive it properly )

still need to recondition the LSD.

#oildiscussion, did change the oil to Motul 5w50. i know its a hot topic but the oil analysis and Mechanic (Tune Tech) have seen many M cars and seen the trend and the work they've done incomparison.
