J E Z E B E L - rebuild 2015.

So, as many of you know, my e46 M3 needs to be rebuilt.

The engine was pulled after the car suffered loss in compression and massive oil leaks and smell of fuel. The car drove like absolute shit, often backfiring and shooting massive flames out the exhaust, as well as pushing oil out the tappet cover gasket and oil catch can due to the mass amount of pressure in the crank case due to compression loss.

The damage.

The solution.

The block is damaged beyond repair. A new block has been sourced.

I will be importing 6 new CP forged pistons - https://store.vacmotorsports.com/cp-carrillo-forged-piston-set-bmw-s54-p2042.aspx

New ARP L19 studs.

New Vac motorsports coated Main end and rod bearings - https://store.vacmotorsports.com/vac-performance-coated-rod-bearing-set-bmw-s54-p1336.aspx
https://store.vacmotorsports.com/vac-high-performance-main-bearing-set-s54-p2050.aspx

Here is the bearing set -

The Vac motorsports Torque plate has arrived, we will be using it when we bore out the S54 block to 87.5mm.

The last rebuild did not use a torque plate, even though I insisted that one should be used, after calling JB engineering, I have learned that JB engineering do not own or use a torque plate when boring out or honing engine blocks.

Please see this video for more info on why a torque plate is used - (go to 6 minutes for the explanation into why a torque plate is used)

Parts that survived the engine failure that I can still use.

My Vac Motorsports stage one cylinder head is still fine, so we will keep all the parts from the Cylinder head. This includes the Vac Motorsports racing valves and single groove cotters.

The HPF (Crower) titanium connecting rods are fine. We will be using them on the build.

A Vac motorsports uprated oil pump internals will be used aswell.

More info to come. Stand by.

was also wondering ?

I would have given up, but maybe the project is worth more as a project than a resignation

It may crack again if you go more oversize, might consider re-sleeving the block back to STD ?

How about getting people who know what they're doing to work on the car instead? Yeah... Let's do that.
