Itching for a Z3

I am going to test drive a 99 model 2.8 today. I would prefer a 3.0l.
What more than the normal things need I be on the lookout for!
It is raining, so I will see if the roof is leaking.
What do you guy's think is a good price for one in very good condition?

never driven one but do not expect a rocketship and the roadholding is not good on bumpy roads . A sports car for americans - posing value is good but dynamics not up to the cars looks .
The January 2003 Total BMW mag has a article from pages 100 to 105 .
the 99 is a double vanos motor so no big problems if it pulls ok -vanos expensive to fix -(noise like marbles in a tin can ) .Gearbox notchy from cold then warms up after a few minutes , typical loose gearlever can be fixed with new bushes .Check front spoiler mountings-plastic rivets break if pavement bumped .Rear suspension is similar to e30 design , so even rear tyre wear will be a problem .Cockpit room tight , so may be problem for overgrown midgets . Good luck .

HI
I had a look at a Z3 last year at a local Lot.
Well an “average chap” like me could not drive it. The car’s cockpit is just too small for me.
A bubby of mine is also an “average chap” also could not get into the Z3.

Tested the Z4 , this more to my liking, just awaiting the 2nd hand pricing to drop down into my spending bracket

Thanks for all your input, help a lot.
Just worried about the space as I am not tall, but a bit on the round side.
Will see later today.

I owned both a Z3 and a Z4 for a number of years (not at the same time). The Z3 is a nice exterior design but not sitting on anything special of a chassis. The Z4 is closer to a "real" sports car. IMHO wait for the Z4's to become affordable.

Test the Z3 yesterday and was originally happy with the car until closer inspection. Engine is very smooth and tick over like a clock, no vanos rattle.
Body need some TLC and I'm sure the shocks need replacing as it is not very stable in corners.

Biggest thing is that all brake discs are buggered and the tires as well.
Few other small things need to be done. In my opinion if someone look after a car like this, it is just not for me.

Might be some more things that I missed. They want a 100k for it.

Some more searching to do!

Just want to know if we have someone in Stellenbosh to testdrive a Z3 for me and get back to me on the overall condition of the car.
It's on our famous Gumtree, someone please let me know how do I put a link on our site to Gumtree. Thanks a lot.
