Is the BMW 3-Series (E36) a future classic?

I have owned 5 e36's through the years, one e30 and two E46's. The e36 still puts a smile on my face every time I drive it, definitely a classic in my book and I will hang onto mine forever.:chef:

I can remember back in 1992 how upset people was with the e36 and how it 'diluted' the BMW genes... Looking back it was actually the start of the 'modern 3-series' and the e36-f30 has much more in common than to e30...

Yes - they don't make them like that anymore - still lot of E36s on the road.

Way back then cars were made to last - now they get made to sell.

I am seriously considering selling my e90 and buying another e36 to run as a daily driver. I have always been a Honda fan and my next project car I wanted to be a bmw e36, they are just awesome.

I love my daily and occasional holiday car , a 1998 e36 316 I to bits, Cape Town to Pe on one tank, and that's at an illegal speed , the E36 M3 , I am dreading the time I going to sell it and trying to look for all excuses like I still have to do this or the other to it before I sell it , have to make that decision though because there is just not enough time to drive one let alone two M3 's.

Only a classic to those that appreciate it, it won't be universally regarded as a classic to all car people besides perhaps the M3. You could look at a Ferrari GTO even though you not a car person and admire it, however not true with an E36. Time will pass and generations will forget about it.

Look at the E30, not only are the 325is and 333i 'classics', but any other model in the range!!!! Even 316i's demand silly prices these days...

Same for the E36 in due time... That's the trend I'm seeing

I have to agree with you. I really don't see anything special about the e36 at all. The M3, hell yes... But the 328, 325 etc.

I'd rather get a 325i e30 then. The spinning world has made it a cult car. I grew up in the township and most kids dreamt about owning one. Today, those that own one want it because they loved it from when they were young. I personally would love a prestine 325i shadowline. I've honestly never heard of anyone dreaming to own an e36 (except the M3) to satisfy a childhood longing.

But that's just me.
