Is my F30 likely to be written off?

Bud,

Let this car go.

The 60k your going to loose now is nothing considering what your going to loose in trade in value with that on the motorplan history.

AND this car will never be the same again..

Ok. I will consider that. Perhaps if money is tight, I might consider a 316iM going for R334,000.

Insurance will assign me an adjuster by next week.

Hi fellows!

Just to let you know that I submitted my complete claim on 26 April to Regent Insurance. They promised to assign an assessor. They had not done so when I called them two days ago, and they told me someone has been assigned, and that they will get in touch with me this week.

If they don't get back to me by Tuesday, I will call them daily.

You need to get hold of their claim division's head and harass them. I spent almost 2K on my cell chasing people up for 2 weeks, if you don't make noise your claim will be ignored.. :thumbdo:

I would really not fix that for myself. Bended chassis eish! That is not just a major fender bender you will probably sit with a lot of issues if you have that fixed. Plus will you buy a car with that comment on its motrplan...
I do think insurance will sort you out and replace the car, or just look for a secondhand car with super low mileage

Thanks for all your posts!

Not too bad with the service up till now because the Head of Claims Division called me to let me know of progress so far.

Yesterday morning I met the assessor who showed me his report. Contrary to what some of you said, the report is solely technical. It is based on the assessment of the scrap - no interviews with me or the other driver.

He said he was going to recommend "write-off" because the repair cost is at 72.6% of insured value. Given that the car is 5 month old and has done 12,500km, the Insurance Company should be able to payout at insured value.

I hope so!

He said I should follow up with them this Friday or next week by Tuesday.

Any feedback on this? Did you get sorted?

Hi m0lt3n,

I went to the claims department this morning and they said they will replace my car with a new one at insured value considering its age (5 months old) and mileage (12,500km).

They asked me to provide (1) spare key (2) registration certificate (3) ID (4) Invoice of the damaged car, and we will, thereafter, sign a settlement agreement.

I hope that settlement agreement has a fair value ... I've had bad experiences, I hope you have a good one ..

Thanks Hunted.

Guys, I am so happy. :joy: Insurance is writing a cheque at insured value (R365,466) but less excess of 5% of insured value (R18,273), that is (R347,192) for me to buy a new car.

Not too bad, isn't it?

Thanks for your advice and encouragement!

So from your 1st post, you said you owe R327k but you were stressed that you couldn't buy the same car again if it was written off. Looks like you're sorted now buddy... nice! At R347k thats a R20k deposit on a neat demo F30 if not a brand new 1... glad you got it worked out in the end! way better than fixing it!

hotchocolate, tinovittee and Jeremy,

This was the first time I got involved in an accident and didn't quite know the workings of insurance. I was stressed because I just love the F30, hope you can understand that.

I wasn't going to have money for a new one if they considered book value, which at 6 months old would be around R300,000. My car is five months old, and is considered new.

I now owe R305,000 on it. There are quotes for a new F30 around R350,000 (less some nice specs), so, I and considering another F30.
