Is my F30 likely to be written off?

Buy back and repair yourself on such a new car is sometimes not really worth it as most (all) parts must be sourced from the dealers, since not a lot of generic or scrapyard parts are readily available. Good luck with your choice and sorry for your loss.

 yasis bro, I'm so sorry for your car being in a state like that, honestly speaking would you want the car repaired after such a crash or wouldn't you want a new one? I know on my insurance policy (Alex Forbes) if a vehicle is less than a year old with less than 20k on it, they normally replace the vehicle... Maybe check your policy bro, and perhaps they would just supply a new car.

Trust me when I tell you that its better to let this one go.

You will loose half of the book value with this sort of repair on the motorplan history.

Hi buddy.

Sorry to hear about the car. I went through a similar situation. I bought my car in december and the next day the wife was in an accident. Just the door and rear fender and back bumper. Bmw qouted R120 000 to fix. Car was valued at 115 000. Insurance wrote the car off. Due to the car still being drivable I requested to buy it back. I paid R40 000 for it and can get it repaired for abt 15 000. The best part was insurance paid the bank in full. And bank issued me with my papers. They never make it a code 3. This was after fighting with them. To me in the end I saved.

My advise will be get a buy back value and compare it to what a scrap yard will give you for the car. You might gain an additional 40 000. Use that as a deposit on another car. Cost to repair will be too much cause it is still a new model.

Insurance prefer to right off instead of paying the max value out to clients due to the risk of paying again in the event of another accident.

Jeremy, DentDocVPS and Clifton H,

Thanks!

I did have a look many times at my policy and it has a clause named: New for Old - if the vehicle is under 6 months old and has travelled less than 15,000km, we will, at our option, replace it with a new one. I will refer to this clause (as mine is 6mths old and has done 12,500km) once they declare my car a write-off.

I am a bit confused. Some folks here think it is repairable (as buy-back), some warn against it (it is expensive to repair given it's a new model). The only reason I might consider repair is if I don't get enough insurance payout to buy a new equally good car. I am already asking BMW how much a 316iM would cost (vs my 320iM). At the back of my mind, I am hoping they give me a replacement car.

I should be getting my quote soon, any time now!

Just an update on my BMW 320iM F30 Sport:

I have been to the Body Repairers for the quote and here is how it goes:

They are supplying and replacing up to 193 items:nonono:

Total Parts = R187,461.70
Total Labour = R34,010.00
Total Paint + R15,500.00
Sub-Total = R236,971.70
VAT = R28,436.60

Grand Total = R265,408.30 (My insured value is R365,466.86).

I am taking the quote to Regent Insurance for assessment and the next steps.

Holy shit! :fencelook: I'm sorry :sorry: At those repair costs the car is definitely a write-off. Good luck and let us know what happens.

Looks like insurance should replace the car  The thing is still brand new

It works as follow.

You have an application called autodex,

Essentially what you do is you click on the area that was damaged, and all surrounding parts are automatically included.

The assessors are too frikken lazy to look at the vehicles, and thats where quotes like this come from.

I did a quote the other day for a customer.

We are spraying 5 panels on the car, but the insurance company will not allow for a polish and glaze.

One of the covers on the mirror popped out, meaning that it just has to be removed and refitted, but they allow almost 5k for a replacement of the mirror, I quoted R375 for remove and refit.

Problem is, that the insurance company hates asking for additionals, hence the million parts being changed.

You quote upfront, insurance removes for check and report, you do not quote for it upfront, and you are not allowed to add additionals.

From your above comment, do your recommend I scrutinise every item listed to try and bring the quote down?

I submitted the claim to Regent today. The officer there says the assessor will contact me within two working days.

I will let you know what happens then.

Bud,

Let this car go.

The 60k your going to loose now is nothing considering what your going to loose in trade in value with that on the motorplan history.

AND this car will never be the same again..
