Hi everyone. Could be my first car that i finance and I want it to be not bankrupting. I really like a 320d, F30 is what i want. Looks like good fuel economy and I have been on another forum and they say that the engine is bulletproof and gearbox is sound however this is a second hand model sold by a non BMW dealership. It'll cost 200k with 150000km on the clock. I plan on driving around 10-15km per day or maybe even less and owning it for around 14-36 months.

What questions should i ask the dealer and what issues should i look out for? How do i check if the car had a motor plan and what are the ways to get a motor plan printout? How much would normal yearly service cost and should i do a major service after purchasing? are there any parts that I should ask about? Like if they were replaced at 100k km? There's a very high chance that I would load equipment into it hence I like the 320d. it has power, i believe or so ive been told.

Howzit man - Personally I dont think you can go wrong with a 320d , however its important to perhaps see if the vehicle has any sort of service history and if services were done on time and perhaps if any big repairs were laid out. Perhaps request the dealer that you take the vehicle for a full Dekra or AA report for them to do a full check on the vehicle before purchasing gives a little bit extra peace of mind.

Maintenance on these cars in regards to yearly services aren't going to hurt the pocket, however I would recommend doing a full major service just so you know its where it needs to be at that mileage and that you have peaceful driving.

Hi

Agreed the 320d F30 motor is bulletproof and so is the gearbox. TBH the gearbox is a masterpiece.

Be carefull as there are many on the market that are accident damaged and with tempered milage.
Maybe post the ad or pics of the car. Somebody might know the car and maybe spot something if there is anything fishy. 2011 are the first few that got off the production line.

The one thing that many people fail to maintain is the Gearbox. Oil changes need to happen at 100 000km. If left for too long, it gets too late to do it.

thanks for the reply. Should i take it to BMW or are there mechanics that can a proper major service too?

Will the dealer have all that information on hand? Would things like big repairs be listed? What document should I ask for?

I havent taken my car to dealer since Iv had it to be honest - However I have a really reputable mech who only works on my car and to date I havent had any issues and his service is superb.

Try check in the service book in the vehicle to see when the last service was done and stamped in the book. Sometimes its not a guarantee that it was done for sure. Thats why when buying make sure it is a reputable dealer as well as some dealers do some funny things in order to make sure they get the car sold.

Are you referring to the engine oil or gearbox/transmission fluid or oil? I am not sure if a gearbox takes oil lol. So if this wasn't done then should i stay away or buy it and then do it myself?

Take it to ZF directly to get the transmission fluid change, for engine oil Service take it to BMW, they usually reasonable and run specials, also get them to go through the car for anything else that may need to be done.
