Hey Guys,

Came across this lovely thread during my search for my next car upgrade. Little history about myself; Im current 25 living in Johannesburg and looking to break away from my dearest Audi love. I currently own a Audi A1 SLine which is nearing its 5 Year life and currently on 76k KM's.

Iv had my eyes on a BMW M135i for the time being due to its attractive performance and quality in package. I had the luxury of grabbing my Audi brand new from the dealer but would/am looking for a 135 second hand however (iv seen some really great cared for models out there in my exploration journey). With an estimated 100k deposit/trade in assistance that Ill be able to drop on the BMW It leaves me looking at the 300-350k price range.

My current roadblock is weather or not to consider the Coupe or the latest Hatchbacks as I feel equal love towards them, Hatchback more so due to the modern dash and layout's.

Ill take any advice you guys could throw my way on things to be redflagged about (if any) or what generally to keep an eye out for. I thankfully have a very close friend of my who can assist with any BMW logs and service histories to go along before purchase.

Anyways looking forward to lurking around so more and to explore what the brand and community has to offer :)

All the best with the hunt. Hope you find the best one out there.

If you can afford to get the hatch (M135i) I would definitely go that route instead of 135i coupe.

The M135i has the superb 8-speed sport auto box, is the newer/more modern car and is quite a bit quicker than the 135i coupe. Resale on the M135i should also be quite a bit better as it is the newer model.

Welcome @soprano

Went through the same dilemma few weeks back. I love the styling on the coupe and the options for modding are endless but settled on the hatchback because newer tech and better resale value. Hopefully you find the right one for you.

Thanks Guys, Thats the point driving the hatch choice too. I have yet to go through the forum on other specifics but once I go in depth on what to look out for there cars, extended plans and other potential costs to consider Ill be able to ask some more defined questions.

Hatch is stunning without a doubt, coupe was the first version that got my taste buds tingling. I do see what you guys are saying as soon as you see the interior of the two it becomes pretty clear.

Wilkommen ! M135i hatch for sure, drive a hatch while it is cool to do so! :smilebounce:

There are some nicely specced ones out there 2013/14 models well in that price range..

One word of advise from my side only.. Depending on how far you are going to drive daily, be prepared to visits the pumps often, real often.. Other than that, these are rockets, with some minor mods they play with the big guns quite easily! :cartel:

All the best!

Hey @cOlDFuSiOn thankfully been nicely considered that part. My A1 was my car while studying as a student and for my first 2 years of working, the car was hellish light on fuel but I was still dropping around 3k a month on Petrol as I worked about 50km's from work adding to around 100kms a day. Ate at my milage on the car. Thankfully Iv moved jobs and am only around 13km's one way to work :) Girlfriend has the latest Mazda 2 so we shall definatly be using her's for the weekend mall and shopping trips. Hopefully keeping mine for those exclusive, well deserved weekend stretch the leg kind of trips! All this is getting me pretty darn excited.
