High Mileage 320d's

2010 LCI 320d auto, 93000km. MP expiring in 5 months (or 7000km)

Just tyres. Recent trip to Port Edward was 5.1 L/100km down and 5.3 back.

Reading this thread it seems I will just carry on driving out of motor plan.
I will have to make friends with this Ross Duncan fella.

Got my E46 320d 6sp on 168k now standing on 203k and only service every 15k and replaced water bottle due to crack and Brake pads. Still has original Turbo well still everything original by the look of things except the service parts since I service myself. I will never sell it!!!!

I sold my 05 120d last year with 256k km. replaced the turbo once and clutch twice. she's was honestly the best value for money I got out of any of my cars.

I traded my 2010 320d Sport Pack Auto in at 138000km's on a 2013 X3 Demo. Had extended the MP to 120000km's but in hindsight don't think it was worth the R1.27 / km that I paid - (R 25 400ex VAT).

The left front shock started leaking at 138000km's and while the car was at SMG Pmb waiting for the replacement shocks (i ordered aftermarket because BMW wanted R20k for the 2 x front shocks and I got 4 x Bilsteins for R7500) they loaned me the X3....clever marketing :clapper::clapper::biglol:

Aside from the shocks, the 320d ran flawlessly for the 3 yrs / 138000k's and was awesome to drive.

The X3 has been a pleasure as well but very different car. I was always "Wideopn" in the 320d but have become far more leisurely in the X3.

An interesting observation is that given the approaching expiry by mileage of the MP i obtained a full print of the servicing costs for the X3 from 0km's to the last service.

Long story short, it has cost MP R0.28c/km for this vehicle. Imagine my horror when they quoted me R 1.68/km to extend by 20000km's:RedNo:

Incidentally, the R0.28c/km includes such things as R1000 for wheel alignment at the stealership:RedNo:.

So, I am going to bank my Tax rebate (last year was a handsome amount by virtue of my detailed logbook) and use that for servicing.

Hi Diesel Fanatics
I have an e91 320d n47. Bought at 115k now sitting on 163k. No issues besides a set of tyres and regular maintenance. Returning mid 5's on long runs and 7's in traffic. Was always a 6 pot fan but now definitely converted. These cars are solid and just chug on. Still on original turbo and no issues with auto gearbox at all.
Start and go!
Diesel ftw!

Definitely not high mileage, but age might count, our 2003 320d is now on 96k kms. No real issues to write home about.

I've had 4 of them between 200k and 280k km and serviced some other friends' 320d's as well. Mine were all manual but I've seen the autos last as well.

Just the usual E46 issues. Vacuum lines thermostat etc.. All original turbo as well. Some with original clutch up to 200k km. That was most impressive.

just did service on 120 000km. Had to bleed brake fluid and refill because boiling point had dropped too much.

Steptronic shifting and sports mode broke recently, cost me 1.5 hours of me time, R80 for wire and heat shrink tubes to fix following this video:

BMW E90 DS Sport Mode & Manual Mode Automatic Shifter Repair

I always use sports mode so probably why it broke.

2011 - 320d m pack - bought in 2011 with 4500km
On 153 000km , Just 2 tail light globes needed replacing.
Changed to non-run flats
Just keep to service and you good to go.
Doing the gear box service next month.

Worried about the turbo, there is a damp looks like a oil leak at the pipeline.

So mine was sitting at 251 000 km on original turbo etc, then some brave dude decided to skip a red light, and that was goodbye to my beloved. R.I.P

2008 e91 320d n47. Bought it at 115xxx and now I'm on 215xxx. Only damper and normal services. Oh and water bottle and oil filter housing. Not one problem with gearbox turbo nor engine. Solid car in my opinion. And yes you must give it once in a while.
