Hi chaps,

I bought a 318Ti 2003 model with 46000km on the clock.

I have had it for 3 months and the same problem has been occuring.
It seems as if the battery is loosing charge during the evening and then the car will not start the following day.
I have bought a new battery but has it has just happened again (Battery was bought and installed a month ago).

While the car is idiling then it is receiving 13.98 Amps.

What could be the problem?

Thanks in advance.

Check the CD player... I know our old E46 3 series had an issue with power drain on the business sound system. They changed something and that fixed it..

Climate control? When the hedgehog resistor goes (which is about once every three years) it can leave the fan on and drain the battery.

@Freerider - no there is no aftermarket sound system or alarm system

@Mike - I will ask them to check - thanks

@Zaleonardz - 13.98 Volts (sorry)

I have been told that there is a voltage regulator which is attached to the alternator which could be faulty. Is this true or :bs:

if you have a multimeter, it will be quite easy to check if the regulator is faulty, it could also be the rectifier, but I'm pretty sure if your reading is 13.94 an DC, your rectifier isnt fried.
