Just went to Bmw Umhlanga to make the booking and was told NO.
The vehicles are a 2010 320D E90 LCI and 2010 530D F10.

They are refusing based on the following reasons

1. Both vehicles (E90 and F10) are 15 years old and there's no service history with the dealer. But one has full service history except for the last service which I did privately. When I mentioned this they brought up point 2. Was also told every time they service a vehicle the FRM gets updated.

2. The FRM. If it blows they do not want to take responsibility.

Their advice was that I take it up with BMW South Africa. Will take up the matter and report back.
Well point 1 is absolute BS. It's a recall campaign on a defective part - service history has nothing to do with it. On the FRM I don't see how they can refuse a recall on a friggin critical safety feature based on that.

Try another dealership bud. This one is not interested in you as a customer as they are not making money off you.

Try another dealership.

I'm based in Gauteng, I have a booking with BMW Montana this Friday. It was no hassle to book it, they told me to come in the morning and it will take 30 minutes.

Just got mine sorted at BMW Stellenbosch. No hassles.
Just over an hour in and out with a free basic check (tyre wear, tyre pressures, undercarriage inspection, battery etc.).
A free coffee too!

The colour mismatch isn't too egregious in person, IMO.

Evening everyone

I was doing some digging around earlier today and found myself on the BMW SA Vehicle Dashboard. After entering my VIN, I noticed that there was an active recall out for my car.

Funny enough, I checked this page some time ago when I bought the car - no such advisory item. I called a branch today and asked if their systems reflect the same information or if the page was just buggy (their dashboard is far from perfect). They then confirmed that there is an active recall for the driver side airbag and should be booked in for replacement immediately at no charge to me.

Not sure if it will apply to everybody with an E9x but it's worth just giving it a quick look-over.
Thanks for this. Although because my vehicle is quite old and second hand I need to register it to a BMW dealership.

I sent an email to Bmw SA and a case was opened. They then contacted me requesting photos of the steering wheels. They called me on Friday to say that I must take both vehicles to Bmw Umhlanga and speak to the customer relations manager. The steering wheel airbag will be replaced.

Hopefully they don't damage the FRM.

Got mine sorted today at BMW East Rand. No issues at all. Didn't appreciate that they touched my mirrors, seat position, steering position AND radio station but job done.

Did you have to go to the dealer to do an inspection first?
I just called ABM as well as Bedfordview and both said they need to inspect the condition of the airbag and steering wheel first, before they can approve the replacement

Not at all. If the dashboard claims there is a technical campaign for your vehicle, they have to replace it.

I was also told the same that they need to check the barcode on the airbag.

My vehicles are booked in for tomorrow.

I had a great experience at SMG Durban. No mention of a FRM and it took roughly 30mins. 10/10 for customer service. I was told again that they need to check the airbag first. The E90 was replaced but not the F10.

I was told by Bmw Umhlanga that they can only do it from Monday to Thursday and it takes 2 to 3 hours. On top of that the lady gave me attitude on the phone.

if im not mistaken, only the round msport airbags in the f series is part of the recall.

so that would be F25 and F10 LCI >2016 models

Correct. I took my F10 in, they checked the airbag and confirmed doesn’t need to be changed.

Not all E9x / F10s cars are legible.

It is any of the E/F series cars with the round airbag, ie M/Sport. I checked my '06 30d and exclusive does not qualify.. I have a Sport steering wheel and that qualifies, so will be getting it changed out at BMW in the near future.

Even my E46 was done some time ago on both steering and passenger airbags at Forsdicks. E92 M3 was done a few years ago as well at Supertech.

My F30 was done 2 weeks ago after I received a message on my connected drive.
