The bearing on the left is worn
Looks like the top bearing and on the right is the bottom.

Run your finger over the surface and you will feel "potholes".

Your bearings are worn and on the way to showing copper had you run a while longer.

The bearings, bolts , gasket and new oils totalled to a figure of 12K and that is a bit if you are low on cash...lol but I think it was forth it. The baddest thing of all is me,, with that said I am probably one of the biggest enthusiast of all time when it is the m5 e60. Saved almost 3 years to buy one and reading all the mishaps on the forums made me paranoid when it is bearings, but all the signs are there. Still have to send pic of the engine stay but i think you guys will laugh. I just had the basic tools and what I din't have i bought..

What torque wrench and angle gauge did you use to tighten the rod bolts?
I bought a special small torque wrench and gave it to my friend to check and calibrate, bought a cheap angle gauge from the local tool shop...but it was not easy doing it up side down...and 3 times per bolt holy shit...

Nice save. Well done.

Out of curiosity, what levels of copper did the oil analysis show if you did that or was it just the copper your saw on the oil filter?

This is a major DIY! And one I would never do again. But if you have the tools and do not take shortcuts, then you are good to go. While the engine is open replace the high pressure vanos lines as well.
