Hi all

I have been experiencing a strange issue with my car for 5 months and nobody can fix it.

My 2010 BMW 320i has vanos codes (switches between intake and exhaust side) (vanos over retarded).

Things tried so far:
New oil pump
New vanos gears (intake and exhaust)
New vanos solenoids (both)
New timing kit
Timing has been redone and checked several times
New camshaft seal
2 new tappet cover gaskets

Nothing seems to be fixing this issue.

BMW genies please help ?????

R56k on a 10 year old 320i?
not being funny but Id say cut your losses and get rid of it.
have the codes been read???

these are troublesome motors, have you checked the valve tronic motor?
this and the valve stem seals were common issues on the N46 motors.

Was just abut to ask him about the Valve Tronic motor...

INclude the Diff as a common issue on these.

Managed to get the car right :) . Turned out to be the oil balancing shaft giving the diesel type sound and a leaking injector that gave of the hesitation / vanos error.

Most of that money was not wasted on the car, but infact a terrible shop that just ripped me off. All the repairs listed on top that were paid for, were not done.
Fortunately found a new specialist in town who got me sorted in under a week, and for under 5k.

I have been using the car daily for the past 2 months and it drives like new.

PS: the only code that the car gave was " Vanos over retarded " , cant remember the exact code number.

Honestly,

I have driven an E90 320i for a while and a few of my friends also had them, they are actually not troublesome...just soldier on donkey motors to be honest and always shot down for being low on power however the one that that did fail on mine and that was at about 84000km, I had it from 10000km...was the valvetronic motor.

Other than that, even many of my other buddies...never had other issues with them.

I honestly dont know how these people can steal money from people like this

1 of my customers has a 330i Preface who's engine packed up.
He took it to a Workshop here in CPT, Dont wana oust them yet, They supplied and Fitted a  330i motor for him. which included him trading in his Old motor.

1st thing they did, they "stole" the bosch alternators and installed a cheap second hand FongKong Alternator.
I made my customer go fetch the bosch one and i installed it for him.

His car was weak man. Nothing like a 330i after his motor swop

He bought a starter from me recently and i had it installed for him. TO MY HORROR, this Thieving Workshop billed him for a 330i motor ( 26k with trade of old engine ) and they installed a 325i motor.

I just never had the heart to tell him yet.

Hope you got some/all your money back. if not, Take see it as School Fees and stick to only 1 Person to work on your car
