Headlights not auto leveling

My headlights are not auto leveling on start-up like they used to. What could be the cause? I want to try and avoid taking them to the dealership (that messed them up).

My e46 did the same thing few days ago.

1st the left headlight didnt come up the the next few days they both stayed up. I fiddled with the connectors and no change. This weekend i decided to clean the engine bay. Now they work again.

Make sure the motor is correctly plugged in. See if the connectors are loose.

What was done to the car when you got it back from the dealership that they weren't working?

Check the control arms where the level sensor attaches. Maybe it wasn't reconnected properly?

Thanks for the advice, have the same problem from time to time my e46 ones works intermittently.

I bet they didn't connect it when they put the engine back in. Where are the control arms located?

There is a level sensor on the front and rear only on one side afaik.
