Hi Guys

Thanks for the awesome site. Getting funds for my car soon, after I sell my other car

I am looking to get an E36 325i with an Iron Block and Single Vanos (must also have the large port intake)

But I need some help, how do can I identify the iron block motor ?

The reason I am asking is that I want to build the motor at a later stage with 86mm pistons and the 330i crank and rods. So I want the strong block so I can rebore the block from 84mm to 86mm

Cant wait to start my build thread.

Double Vanos only came out with the E46 328i AFAIK. So no worries there, any E36 will have single Vanos. A VIN number check might help to determine what stuff the block of a car is made of.

Hey thanks for the reply, sorry for my noobness but how can I check the block spec with the vin number

Btw I have found that early e36's came with non vanos, which have dual valvesprings on exhaust and intake

The engine that you are looking for is the M50B25TU. It has the iron block and VANOS. The one that came before it was the M50B25. The change happened in September 1992. The M50B25TU was replaced by the M52B25 in 1994 (not sure about the month). This is the aluminium block. The VIN number tells you the build date if you know how to read it. Google/Yahoo/Bing/whatever is your friend in this.

BTW, here is a 1992 325i going for R19 500. It may or may not have VANOS but if it still has the original engine, it would be the iron block.

All these cars are in George, Eden (huh?) but the phone numbers are different. George, Eden (huh?) must be the Mecca of cheap 325i's or a smelly fish factory is located there. I don't know which one.
