Good day fellow Fanatics.

Firstly, congrats to an awesome site! I feel very welcome among all you BMW fans.

A short bit of history on me and my BMW's;
My first car after I've finished school was a 1984 BMW 323i, Aero Silver with manual transmission. The car was quite battered but mechanically it was still in good condition - fixing it up was part of the fun! Sadly the car was written off due to poor judgement by another road user. I then purchased another BMW - once driven, always a fan. This time a 1986 323i Manual Executive in Glacier Blue in a fairly good condition fitted with a few performance parts (branches and performance chip). Unfortunately I had to let it go as a trade in for an offer I could not refuse. After driving a Toyota Carolla 1300 for 2 years I really started missing my BMW. As my father upgraded, I was fortunate enough to be offered to purchase his 1988 BMW 325i Manual in Dolphin Grey in pristine, original condition. I still own and drive that car till today. My latest addition is a 2012 f30 320i Manual in Mineral Grey - yes, I love greys, my two shades of grey.

Good to be part of this forum.

Cheers,

Salwynne

Welcome.

My first BMW was a '79 520 manual - the six cylinder one. Very smooth engine but a bit slow and thirsty, even in the mid eighties. I traveled all over the country in it and have some wonderful memories of it. Unfortunately it started overheating and I made the mistake of taking it to a real skelm of a mechanic. He convinced me that it was over the hill and that he had to do a complete overhaul. In fact, it only needed a new thermostat. Long story...

Ja Maljan. You get some dodgy "mechanics" out there hey. The best way is to learn and do it yourself, especially with the older type of cars when things were not as advanced and technical.

At least the story worked out well. I ended up selling the car to a friend of my dad and got myself a new Jumbo Golf GTi. :=):
