Howzit guys

I know this is the wrong forum. The vwclub don't seem to eager to answer.

Can anybody just push me in the right direction. Need a DIY on the sound install on a 1992 citi golf. I have no problem with the door speakers but i can't seem to get the wires to the battery, the starter and the ground. Previous owner make such a F up of all the wires.

Thanks guys!

I would do as Xack suggested. Your own configuration will be safer as well.
You and i should have a city golf meet :joy:

agree with the above, when we had a citi golf 89 model, layed out new wire for the radio, and front speakers, the amp,sub and 6*9 never got connected, was just lazy:fencelook:

just make sure you switch off on the radio,or you will have to push start the next day:rollsmile:

Thanks guys. Can i just use auto wire for the wires running to the battery, the starter and the ground or should i still use twin flex? Thickness of wires? Sorry for all the questions but im more of a bmw modder.

And maybe just a pic of where on the starter i can connect?

Thanks guys! You are awesome as always!

Chris. If you have time. Pop in at cape gate tomorrow. There is a car sound install company working from the undercover parking area for years. Let the guys there help you. I have seen all sorts of cars parking off for installations. Dont know the fees but worth a chat to them.

As you enter from the hospital side of the capegate mall undercover parking (P2). Drive slowly straight through and they on the left side before you take the ramp to P2.

If I'm not mistaken there is a hole or grommet through the firewall behind the carpet underneath the cubby you can use

Route the cable through the rubber grommet on the firewall, as Dr Evil said. Use thin, firm object, such as an old car aerial with the cables taped to the side that you are pushing through the grommet.

Get yourself a decent 4gauge wiring kit, they are like under R200 has all the cables you need...

It's easier if you take the grommet out poke a hole in with a screwdriver then push wire through and fit back grommet, it's a neater and easier solution to run a powerr cable..

Ground cable can be"grounded" in a lot of places pref near to where your amplifier is mounted eg. Seatbelt bolts, seat bolts etc...

Why do you need a wire going to the starter?

So the front loader switches on/off when the car is started. I have already fitted the door speakers and extended the wires to the front loader with twin flex. Just need the port to the engine bay so i can connect to the battery and ground but im struggling to remove the entire front console just to find a entry point to the engine bay

Using a line from the starter means it will only power up once car is started a better solution would be to take the line off the acc position on the ignition switch it will also reduce unwanted suppression noise

Look at the firewall from the engine bay and you will notice cables going into a grommet, once you see that you will be able to determine its location on the inside of the car

I will take it off the acc position then. You don't maybe know what colour that wire is?

I have located the grommet in the engine bay but it seems to be behind the glove box. Can't see if the glove box can be removed without removing the entire console

Remove the panel that has a tray ( I dont know what its called) it the last panel so to say, then move your hand up behind the glove box (yes you will be able to do this) you can reach for the cable and pull through

From what i remember on a vw:

Direct Live - Red with white stripe
Ignition - Brown with red stripe ore Yellow with red stripe
Ground - Brown

Thanks Drop! I have removed that panel and stuck my hand up there with some cuts as a result but can't reach the grommet. I will try again later. Is it next/behind to the fuse box?

The grommet you are looking for is about 10cm to the right of the fuse box (if i remember correctly, when viewed from inside the car, under the carpet on the passenger side.)

If you looking at the firewall from the engine compartment, its towards the bottom/left of the brake cylinder. There is a blank rubber grommet the size of a R5 coin.

The original wires for the speakers would be:

-purple(left rear)
-green(right rear)

But, as DROP IT - ZN said,

get a decent 4 gauge wiring kit, it has everything you need:

-power cable to the battery (and connectors)
-ground cable (and connectors)
-remote wire (blue) for an amp
-speaker cable
