 and you should be just leave the supra at home :fencelook:

Does anyone know much about hybrid turbos, I've been reading quite a bit and it only seems like people can do it on the older garret turbo and not the Mitsubishi piece of kak.

You can replace your Mitsubishi turbo with this Garrett part number: 741785-5014S (available at promotec as Hybrid Turbo!!!)

741785-5014S Garrett turbochargers fit the following BMW engines:

BMW 120D 2.0 litre diesel, engine code M47 TU2 Euro 4, OEM number 7792413, year 2004-2007;
BMW 320D 2.0 litre diesel, engine code M47 TU2 Euro 4, OEM number 7792413, year 2006 onwards.

741785-5014S Garrett turbos are an alternative replacement for part no. 741785-0014, 741785-0010 and 741785-0013

Thanks Rolf. Who does the conversion on the turbo? Is it done locally or overseas? Would it come with a warranty? And roughly what would it set me back?

Not cheap

- It's done overseas
- its a brand new turbo with a 6 month warranty
- landed price to be expected at R25k landed inclusive shipping and duties paid

Not cheap though.... but estimated power output is roughly 180kw / 245hp
Not bad for a non LCI

Dieselboy just to paint you a picture. The gti is around 150kw. Your bmw is 147kw. I also done downpipe and software and a tiburon 2.7 V6 non turbo car made me cry. That car has only 130kw but it lighter then mine. Now imagine what a gti would do. I agree with Rolf we will need atleast 200kw to beat a gti. My opinion instead of spending so much money upgrading rather consider a 330d.

Its not impossible to get 200kw on our car but the cost is too much. Also remember ours is 4 cyclinder so that engine might not handle all that power for too long. Plus u might need to upgrade the clutch kit.

I just wish I bought a 330d instead of a 320d.

It is my dream to also beat a gti. I don't know why maybe its cause VW and BMW has been competitors for a long time.

But yesterday I realized that it is a dream that won't come true. Unless the gti has problems but then what is the worth of beating a broken gti.

I recently bought the car and at the time did not have enough for a 330d. It would be far too much of a hastle to sell it now and try find a 330d m sport. I was only considering the hybrid turbo.

But on another note, I've been reading of 120ds with the same engine as our car reaching 300hp+ which is around 220kw. Although they had quite a few more mods.

Since I'm 1500kg and the golf 5 gti is around 1300kg, and we're both pushing out the same power but me a shit load more torque. Should I have the upper hand on robot to robot. And also on a dyno would it make a difference if traction control and aircon were off?

Dude I have a proposition for you. My GTI 5 will be tuned at month end, at the moment I'm stock and making the following figures on RBT's Dyno:

150.5 kw
293 nm

We can have a stock test, TLGP and then a rolling as well? Then after I tune I'd like a re test?

I'm not having my car tuned to be the quickest, I'm not adding a DP and no intake. Everything on the car, besides a "daily" stage 1 map, is stock and will stay that way for a very long time.

If you keen we can make the arrangements? Also if you have a "track" to test on it will be perfect.

BTW I also have an auto box :fencelook:

EDIT: I only have the car a month now, and don't know the car too well either. It's been a while since I owned a FWD.

SSC at kyalami....

enjoy your 320D for what it is, trust me you will. Its no tuned 330D, but it has sufficient power and awesome economy.

Later on you can sell it and get a 330D, I suspect you will have to pay in to much to do it now.

This will be interesting, although it will be a straight win for the GTI.

320d is too heavy and gear ratio's too short to be playing with the DSG GTI :fencelook: Gear changes are also lightning quick on a DSG
But it will be good to see the actual outcome

Guys, keep in mind that I proposed not to prove anything, but to help me gauge my car between stock and tuned and at the same have the 320d guys try answer some of their questions.
