Amazing...can't get much else out. The pic third from last, after the wash...OH EM GEE

Congratulations and best of luck for what lies ahead. Loving that people are taking the time and making the effort to restore these cars. Older BMW's have a special place in my heart, my E30 was :inlove:

You lucky B******d.

+1 on the tow truck guy, he really was extremely professional, i would recommend him to any one.

+1 on getting the missus involved. It makes the whole process so much more enjoyable when the two of you enjoy it together.

It felt like an adventure going to collect that car, and i agree with keeping it as original as possible:thumbs:

Glad you enjoying the car bud, and welcome to E24 ownership

Wes,thank you for everything mate, you have been amazing, and guys, you cannot find a more genuine person around than Wes,he was brilliant the whole time!

Anyways, enough of that sentimental kak. :roflol:

Up,you gotta see the car in the flesh to believe it,I was amazed yesterday when we were cleaning it just how straight it actually is. Ya, there are the odd blemishes here and there, but I wouldn't expect anything else from a car that old. There is a rust spot on the front bumper just behind the chrome, and one on the rear bumper just below the bootlid. The only reason I know it's there is cos I can see it reflecting in the chrome
The paint is 100% original, the car has never had a touch up anywhere.
As for the radio.....R622 in 1981 must be like R10k now! And that was absolute state of the art. I think it is the most complicated piece of kit on the car!

V1p3r,I love these old Bimmers, they just ooze elegance and class. I meant to tell the guys,I was given some brochures from the guy who facilitated the sale. So he was a BMW salesman in the late 70's and early 80's,so he gives me this stuff,I check it,and it is ORIGINAL brochures for the launch of the first 7 series, with an invitation as well to a gala event. In brand new condition.

Guys,as far as the tyres are concerned, alexander, expect a PM from me! I don't want to change the rims if I can absolutely help it,I LOVE them. But I do know that tyres are going to be nigh on impossible to find and freaking expensive.

Thanks for all the positive comments guys,I really appreciate it!

Just a quick one Wes,it looks like all the relays and fuses are there. I am worried that there is no spark on the battery terminal, and was wondering if it MAY be the battery leads that are the problem. Any thoughts?

Go through the car slowly, replace connectors/fuses/relays as you see fit. It could be something really simple thats broken/not connected.

Also, www.bigcoupe.com is your new best friend, these guys have basically covered everything there is to cover on the e24.

Regarding the Big coupe form, make good use of the search engine on the forum, some of the guys can be abit offish if they feel they have covered the topic over and over again.

There is a guy here in JHB who has 2 6ers. He has done all the work on them himself and they drive like dreams. His passion is his 2 6ers. If I get into a spot of bother I call him up and he is always ready with a tool box in hand. If you want PM me and Ill give you his details.

Hz, nice find. Wrt the OE wheels and tyre's.....lots of the Ferrari guys have the same problem with a TRX size wheel....they just have the old wheels 'resized' to 16''. Wheel still looks OE but with a stepped lip, no biggie. Later

So..... got home this evening, went to the garage to fiddle a bit. There is a loose cable lying off the battery lead,I connected it to the positive terminal and wallah, car comes alive. Checked the lights, there is a problem with the inner bright on the drivers side, indicator as well, all the windows don't go down, suspect that may be a relay or fuse issue,so a quick fix.
On the plus side,it seems as if 90% of the electrics work, including the sunroof, state of the art radio, temp dials, windscreen wipers, electric mirrors etc.
I am super chuffed by that. Plus, I turned it over, didn't want to start it,and the motor started to take effortlessly. So tomorrow I reckon some clean gas,a water top up,and I might just give it a go at starting it.

:roflol: I know!! But the saving grace is there is a hydraulic hose missing from the clutch slave cylinder,so the clutch isn't working at the moment! That's a very good thing....otherwise my M3 would be going on a truck and the 635 being driven!
