Gearbox warning light

Very strange thing happened on Saturday.

Driving very slowly through a game reserve when the Transmission Faulty light came on telling me to take the car ( X5 ) to the nearest dealer. Same time was stuck in first gear and would not change into the next gear.

Switched the car off, removed the key, started it again and drove off.

Did a 800 km road trip on Sunday without any issues.

Now the question. What the moer was that all about?
Motorplan expired but the car only did 70K.

I know this might seem odd but go test your battery. Low or old batteries cause that kind of problem, had it with our E53 and a friends E46, after new battery no problems came back.

Do diagnostics. I know of an E39 540i that does the same once in a while. Apparently just needs coding and maybe adaptations reset.
