Fuel - Do brands differ?

I have Z4 M coupe... I feel quite a difference using different brands... i.e. Shell makes the car really responsive

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I thought you guys might find this interesting.
I spoke to one of the guys that race in the Altech Porsche Cup, and he told me they use Sasol in all their cars (not sponsored), and thats not the race fuel, just the regular pump fuel. Reason being that they found the race fuel varies too much from batch to batch and the inconsistency made the cars so much harder to tune, and the other advantage is that just just much cheaper.
Anyone have any experiances with Sasol that they would like to share?

Car goes beautifully with it, but dont expect kms out of it though. I get my worst kms/lt on Sasol, but probably the best performance for a pump fuel.

Also had many crappy fuel issues...now i stick to Engen and try to go to the same garage most of the time.
I also stick with Engen for Diesel...seems to get better milage and performance...

I did my own experiment,

I used only Sasol 95 for about 5 -6 tanks. and then i switched over to Shell, which i made a desicsion after also about 5 full tanks.

Consumption on Shell is better and the response if day and night. I put nothing but shell 95 into my petrol tank.

I just put 93 petrol. Doesnt matter where from. Car feels the same, get the same mileage out the tank. Etc.. Obviously stick to bp, shell, caltex, sasol, engen, and total if i have to.

I dunno, I go anywhere that there is 93.. which is everywhere ..my car was dynotuned on 93 so thats all I run.

never really had a bad experience with fuel anywhere...

My car was also dynotuned on 93,will it matter if I start using 95 with octane booster ?

I always used shell 93 then about 3 weeks ago I started using BP Ultimate unleaded 93 (supposedely you get better consumption and it cleans your engine) ,I'm now considering the shell v-power with booster.

I can honestly say that my fuel consumption (with same driving as usual) is better than it used to be since I started using BP Ultimate unleaded.

When I'm near Kraaifontein, I fill up at discount diesel. Industria turn off. Usually at least 30c/l cheaper.

I heard from a lecturer of mine that used to work at the refinery in cape town that all the fuel comes from the same place and is exactly the same untill they add their additives. Which apparently are also pretty much the same. Mostly just changes the colour.

Sasol ULS Turbo Diesel FTW! I was using BP Diesel 50ppm, and when they couldn't supply 50ppm anymore (at my usual filling station) I just continued using BP with 500ppm, was hoping that with the cleaning power it would still be beneficial. My car used to smoke quite alot, but thought it's done a fair mileage so wasn't complaining. Through an acquaintance of an acquaintance I was told BP low sulfur was the best (He worked for one of the big petrochemical companies).

I recently changed back to SASOL and wow, I can feel the difference. After not even a tank, it's definately smoking less and feels like it's got more power.

Although this is really subjective, especially the feeling of power, I definitely feel it's smoking less.

Something obvious that I over looked was that my new prefered fuel has 10 times less sulfur in it, which should be taken into account. :mmm: Oops...

Also, the smoking was only evident under hard acceleration, and particularly at night with someone driving behind...

The fuel all comes from the same place, the only difference is the additives that are added, these do not get added with every load as should be, thus sometimes it will happen that you fill up and your car will not feel the same, like happened to Freerider. I personally only use Shell and BP at the moment, but that is only by personal preference. The Caltex Techron additive is apparently amazing at cleaning up carbon, but I do not have one close by me that sells unleaded 95.

Hi,

Its true, all fuel comes from the same place. I have a friend in the transport business, he says at the depot, you have all the garages trucks filling up, they only add there own spices to it :)
