Hallo everyone!
I’m a proud owner of an E91 lci with N47 and looking forward of moving to something new probably the same brand. I heard bad reviews for the next model F30 and especially the plastic interior. So I have second thoughts for a F10/F11. For sure it will be diesel and has to have lot of extras and assistances. I’m open for any recommendations and tips what else can I buy in the same budget. Would like to be a step up not only as a year of production but what will offer me as, a better car.
I’ve looked at the 420d with N47T but don’t have enough info what better it’ll be compared to my E91?

Sincerely,
Milen

ZF8.

the gearbox in the f series is significantly better than the e series.
F30s are produced in SA, whilst the other f series models are produced in Germany, the F10 definitely has better build quality.

I'd suggest going to sit in someone's F30 and see if your feelings about the interior line up with what you've heard. There are plenty out there and it will give you a better idea than just what you've read or heard.

There is a size and materials and focus (sportiness vs comfort) difference between the F30 and F10. A lot will have to do with the spec also, because a base spec 5 will not feel the same inside as a loaded F30, depending on the options you want or get. Also comfort vs sportiness will again come in when deciding on a Luxury or M-Sport model etc.

@Riaad hits the nail on the head with regards to the gearbox, there is no comparison between a diesel E-model car with the 6spd auto vs and F-model with the 8spd, single biggest difference you'll feel in the daily drive.

I see OP might not be from SA, cause he mentions the F11, these werent offered to the SA market, or I have never seen 1 😅

E90 build quality on the inside compared to a bone stock f30 is better. However get an F30 that's been spaced with extended cluster, bugger nav screen etc and you will soon forget about the e90. Same applied when comparing e90 to e46.

The previous generations were built with better materials because pencil pushers were not determining every single aspect of the car and budgets. Like riaad said, the gesrknib is a huge difference and I would say the suspension is also better. A speed f30 with all its gadgets is awesome. An f10 is much better then the f30 because it's the next step up in the range. Either way you won't be disappointed. Just don't buy a 520d , IMHO that engine is too small for the body.

Good luck with the hunt

You should enjoy the F series as the guys noted above, it feels easier to drive and more comfortable, tad quieter and better road manners in my opinion than the E series despite you seeing a bit more plastic inside.. the Zf8speed is night and day compared to the E’s 6 and makes the car feel faster and always ready for the right gear… I also feel that there is more storage space with bigger compartments for your stuff in the F. Cup holders work much better 🙃. Rear legroom and headroom also a tad bigger. Try get one with more features like bigger screen with Nav, sport box.

I have personally owned an e90 and 3 F30s
And now own a F10 530d.

I’d still buy the F30 for the size and driving feel. Get a fully specced 330d LCI and get done.

F10 is a great place to be, ito comfort but you compromise on the sport feel (doesn’t feel as well planted on the road like the F30).

Having come from an e90 MSport...then e92 Msport to now F30 Msport....

The f30 hands down a big step up from the e90.
Spend a week in the f30 and go back to an e90 you feel its dated. Not saying the e90 is bad, i just feel the F30 is a much nice car to sit in.
I really look after my car, use quality products to maintain the interior. I try not to park in the sun. A good dark shade tint really saves the plastic items from fade or damage. Its holding up pretty well so far, i dont see any sort of damage or fade on mine.

If you want quality, the F10 is the way to go....

coming from e90 to f30 i did notice the f30 being little more plasticky but like firi said you soon forget about those things if you have the right interior spec (extended cluster pro nav etc etc ).
